I recently purchased a revolver off of EE here. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me further information as I have not been able to find much on this particular model. Here is the information I have so far.

Smith and Wesson Mod 13-2
Calibre: 357mag/38spl
Barrel: 6" Bull
Serial: 45###

It is a target pistol. Looks to be in excellent condition with very little use. I was wondering if anyone would be able to at least tell me the date of manufacture as well as any other information with regards to this particular model.

I am aware that they are pretty much a model 10 with a bull barrel. Thank you very much. Here is a pic as well ...

If you post the majority of the serial number I can tell you the manufacturing date. ( or send me a PM ) As my friend Dan has said this gun did not leave the factory this way so it's pretty much a mute point. The 13-2 was manufactured from 1977 to 1982.

I figured the aftermarket sight rail (aristocrat), counter balance, trigger and grip were all put on by a gunsmith after it was purchased. I didn't know the barrel was however as it said that it came with a bull barrel but like you said this model didn't include a 6". Either way the gun is almost mint and feels sturdy in my hand and I can't wait to make some holes in some targets with it. The trigger is crisp in single and not bad at all in double.

What do you guys think? It is my second SW revolver and I think they are awesome. Thanks again.

PM was sent with the majority of the serial. So there were not many of these then eh if only 5 digits were in the serial number. Probably shoot it before the weekend and if it performs good then I will put up some targets.

That's modified for some sort of bullseye competition - the grips and changeable weights are a no-no in PPC. Definitely shoot some target wadcutters through it, they can be amazingly accurate.

I'll have to revise my statement on your other query. Not a full PPC gun but close. The sawhandle grip is typical for an ISSF centrefire match revolver, but with a 6 inch barrel it would not go into the box, hence would be ruled out of competition. I'd say that it probably was for the NRA revolver matches, particularly the Harry Reeves Memorial or just an old fashioned "conventional pistol" shooter.

"...is a target pistol..." It is that. Bullseye shooting revolver. Those grips are worth a fair chunk of money too.
M13's(aka 357 Magnum M&P) were made between 1974 and 1999. Your -2 was introduced in 1977 with a change back to gas ring on cylinder. Came with a 3 or 4 inch barrel. It isn't unusual for a 6" barrel to be put on for target shooting though. Mind you, why somebody would buy a 4" M13 instead of a 6" .357 is another question.

With a changeover to a set of regular grips it would likely make a great PPC gun and general use revolver. And with the right holster could even fit into the IPSC revolver category. But it's too big and bulky with that bowmar rib to fit into IDPA.

And if you get the feeling for doing some single handed bullseye shooting the whim is easily satisfied by switching back again.
