I am intereted in getting a 6mm BR. Want it to be mag fed though. I have found some references online for a Savage 12 LRPV in 6mm BR, that is mag fed, but cannot seem to find the gun on Savages site.

Anyone have one? Does this even exist?

Thanks..

buy a short-action Savage. Any Savage you like; a stevens 200 even. Then talk to one of the barrel dealers here, and buy a prefit 6br barrel. About $400, minus the $100-150 you can get for the take-off. Talk to a smith or someone to fit it for you; should be cheap.

LRPV's are single shot only.

You can most definitely get a mag fed LRPV. My girlfriend had ordered a M12 benchrest direct from Savage. They sent her a M12 LRPV with a mag. chambered in 6br with a 1 in 12" twist barrel. She sent that back and got her benchrest on the 2nd try.

She has pics if you want to see what it looks like.

Hmm..that might be what I want. Wish i could find it online. 1 in 8" twist would be good as well.

Thanks!

model 12 benchrest

say I looked at a model 12 F-Class and it had vents in the bottom of the stock as well as the sides, so maybe hard to place a bipod rail underneath the stock,

has the benchrest model go the underside vents as well, thanks Jeff

I built my 1st 6mmBR as a repeater using AI mags. It was inconsistent to say the least, huge pain in the ass. Do not recommend at all.

I'm building a 6mm repeater (some events require rapid fire) and the only 100% reliably feeding (short action) cartridges are:
  1. 6x47 Lapua (6mm Long Dasher)
  2. 6XC Norma
  3. 243 Winchester
[*]6mm Creedmoor (not considered since dies are not commercially available as of now)

Each of these cartridges have their pluses and minuses and I'm changing my mind twice every day but it will definitively be one of the first three.
I wanted to have it built in 6XC two weeks ago, as a 243 last week and as a 6x67 Lapua this week ;)

6x47 lapua has been tossed around by a few people I know and no one has been able to make it shoot. A 6x47 BR (222 magnum necked up) is a favorite for short range benchrest for lots.

6XC and 243 are the easy choices. 6mmBR is just so reliable, efficient and easy to load and shoot, just not in a repeater.

I think you are right, but i see posts like:

"Bought a Savage 6mmBR a couple of weeks ago. Had a choice of a left port single shot or a right port repeater"
from.. http://6mmbr.websitetoolbox.com/post/Savage-LRPV-or-custom-3209330

My bad, Savage doesn't seem to update their website then. They only list single shot LRPV's and that is all I thought they had. That style of case (short and fat) isn't that good at feeding from a mag, though it can be done, it will be a pain IMO.

Hey,

Here are the pic's of a mag fed Model 12 LRPV and the model 12 Benchrest.

Henry mounted one of his bipods on my Savage Fclass with no problems and it works great. My offer of loaning you my 6.5x284 still stands by the way.

I have a 6mmBR built off a Win70, it has a bottom metal that takes AI mags. Guy I bought it from had a little piece of plastic to force the cartridges to sit forward of the back of the mag....also had a smith do some work.

Have not tried it yet, still trying to find the time to load up some rounds.....hopefully this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes.

If it gives me headaches I've always got the single block that came with it.

hey hend thought you were in a land far far away,

want to sell your savage later Jeffy

I am Sr. Jefferson but I'm in Lima (civilization) and not in the jungle.
I planned on keeping my Savage as a platform to build a 6BR on after deciding not to buy your Bat action. The gun shoots too well for me to sell it at this time.
