Wanting a New Scope. FFP Under $1500, thoughts?

After buying the Sightron S-TAC I've turned into a real fan. Don't discount checking out their SIII model or the STAC itself.

But my question is: what are you using the scope/gun for? I only ask because I was building a cross platform rifle for hunting/long range shooting and I thought I was sold on the FFP. I narrowed it down to the Vortex PST, Sightron SIII and Burris XTR II. I did a ton of research and I had the same budget as yourself. Someone brought the Sightron STAC to my attention and I'm pumped that they did. It's half the cost, the glass is perfect (which is the most important part of a scope) and the tactical dials are crisp.

I've fired about 100 rounds with it so far and it tracks nicely. At first, I was a little bummed out that it's SFP but the reticle is fine enough that it's not a hindrance at all. And the money that I saved let me buy more toys. I don't feel like I cheaped out with the quality I got. Some people will argue that I did but I've compared it side by side with a buddies Vortex PST and we both agreed that we thought the clarity and color of the glass was better on my Sightron. Vortex has a better warranty in that you can bash your scope and they will cover it but Sightron does have a lifetime mechanical warranty. Anyways... that's my opinion.

Got this as a response from Bushnell regarding the difference b/w the scopes.

Thank you for your email. I am happy to help.

Yes, the difference is the zero stop and the ERS has 10 Mils of adjustment with one complete revolution of the turret, and the DMR has 5 mils per revolution. Other than that, the scope are the same.

Thank you,

I thought Bushnell 3.5-21* is about $2K......
I am also looking for a scope for my Sako 85 ss Varmint .223. I see there is a lot of positive feedback reg. Sigtron S iii 8-22*56 MOA-2. I am buying my rifle from The Gun Dealer online store. They don't sell Sigtron and can't get it for me. They suggest Steiner G3 4-20*50 Varmint S7 reticle for $1500. They will mount and sight the scope free. Sigtron at Amazon.ca is $1135. I am not sure how much Sako's mounting hardware costs. I am very new in shooting sport and would appreciate any suggestion.

For a little less money but maxium 12 power Meopta makes a nice offering. Crystal clear glass, sometimes makes up for loss of power.

I ordered Sigtron S iii 8-22*56 Mil.Dot about $1350, tax and shipping free from Prophet River. You can buy it at Amazon.ca for $1150, however I have been told there is something fishy with that distributor. However with tax and shipping you may end up paying slightly more than $1350. It has lifetime warranty and you can buy FFP with couple hundreds $ more.

I ended up going with the Bushnell HDMR. Although My original budget was $1500. I was able to get a HDMR pretty much BNIB for just a couple hundred over that mark. Too good a deal to pass up.
