Wanting an FR8, what are they going for?

This showed up today, in anticipation of future rifle procurement, very well loved, but it'll do.

This seems like a timely observation: the HK G3 rifle slings seemingly attach just like the Spanish CETME slings therefor same as FR-7, FR-8.
If thats true these HK slings are much newer than the Spanish surplus canvas slings and offer different carry options. Something to research folks.

Well.... I have an FR7 inbound, Still really wanting an 8, But the fella on GP came down quite a bit, It was still more than I wanted to pay, but beggars cant be choosers. Need to source a few OG slings, Already have the Bayo.

probably wont see it for awhile since its coming out of Ontario.

That's a nice looking rifle. Looks like it was well taken care of.

I think you'll find you like the FR7. It's a very practical rifle for field shooting. Lightweight, decently accurate, packs enough of a whallop to put meat on the table.

Congratulations! You're soon to be a part of a fairly small club of people who've owned and shot these forgotten treasures.

Check the fake gas tube when you get it, mine actually had(still does) some note from a spanish soldier about a 'puta' in it

Haha, I'll check for sure, iam looking forward to it for sure. I do like the looks of the one posted a few pages back that has the recoil lug in the stock, kinda like the industrial look of it.

Well the FR7 arrived today, Very good shape, Iam happy with it, Just need its bigger brother and I'll be one happy camper! Anyone know if a CETME L bayo will fit these rifles?
if serial # is indication of when it was made, this is #147

Bought mine for 800$ but that was a few years ago in before justinflation

Not a bad price, I ovepayed for this one but, but I figure only $100-$200
There is an FR8 on GP right now, but he's asking $2500!! Same member who posted here a few weeks ago for a trade, he took his add down right away and never replied to my numerious messages, glad he didn't at that price.

Huge necropost folks, yet I have one idea. The only real shortcoming both the FR-7 and FR-8 is the limitations of maximum 400 meters rear sight.

How about this for casual range use only: using the generous notch position for 100, build a filler peep sight that climbs about the 400 mark?
In theory you could have 2 or 3 or 4 of these differing higher elevation inserts for longer distance shooting?
Secured by snug fit or merely rubber elastic.

Thoughts???

You'll probably get just as good of results learning/practicing holdover with the 400 meter peep. My eyes aren't good enough anymore to hit anything much past 400 (on a good day) with irons anymore, so take that advice with a grain of salt, but "back in the day, when I was a young man I was lead astray..." and was taught to learn holdover if you had to shoot further than your irons were marked for.

Yeah. One probably could. One option place the tip of front blade in line with the top edge outer uppermost ring of the 400 peep.
Maybe?

Hmm... Maybe I should drag it out of the cabinet and stare at it some... Getting about that time of year to start giving everything a spring clean and lube anyway.

Lol. Yeah. 400m is not enough. Most people need to shoot past 400m with iron sights using a 3+ moa milsurp carbine.

Not.

Honestly, kind of what I was thinking. But just because it isn't logical, doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun to try, so I'll give Brutus the benefit of the doubt. For me, realistically, it's 100m, 200 on a really good day, deer and coyote gun. But the idea of stretching it past 400 to take it to a milsurp battle rifle gravel belly day amuses me. Well, the thought of someone else trying it amuses me.

Yes. I love to experiment with rifles.
Is why I bought a 100 moa prism.
Life's too short to not try things at distance.
If I had defeatist attitude I never would have taken a buck at 260 yards with peep sighted 30-30 Winchester carbine, 22 November 2005.
Practice with what you got.
