Wanting to get into BP hunting.

So why not just hunt with your 300 WTBY:confused:
Some places have a special season for ML only, sometimes extra to the CF rifle season. This may the case here.

Doesn't happen here in NB, so there is almost no interest in MLs at all.

Same in Alberta. A few small areas with a limited dates and maximum applicants hoping to get drawn. So, I use my inline during regular rifle season with confidence.

I have to get my ML stuff for SIR in Wpg, or online though. Some of the staff behind the gun counter at Wholesale sports (even my good buddy Pat) look at me like I am a retard when I asked about ML's & accesories.

You have a valid point there SC, My fingers began typing before my wee brain clicked in.
In Alberta here, there is only one ml season that I know of,draw only on the base here at CFB Wainwright. I shoot ml's because I enjoy it. I shoot both in-line & sidelock(primitive percussion), It gives me a rush as does bowhunting.
But I also shoot centerfire as to why I bought a T/C Encore, change barrels carry on.
Thanks for pointing that out:) ,

Hmmmm,Alberta..muzzleloaders..........do ya hear the banjos strumm'n:p
"You need to get yerself a good .270 or ought 6, hell even a good .243 for hunt'n these parts!"
I've heard that a few times in my earlier days.

I don't want to get off topic but, hunting with Black Powder may mean diff. things and I think a newbie may not get all the goods, the way this thread is headed........many of us hunt with Black Powder Cartridge in orig. rifles or replicas. You don't get to hunt in Muzzleloader seasons but is the ultimate test, using these old techniques and guns in the regular season. No modern in-lines here, no stainless, fluted, laminated stocks, or other old fashioned equip. Any old 45/70 or 40-65, etc. can be loaded with black and used as they were orig. meant to be used. You do gain increased ignition consistency and better accuracy and longer range...safer as well!!

i am also looking at purchasing my first smoke pole very shortly so its going to be either a T/C hawken or T/C firestorm flintlock, getting info around calgary about BP is not easy.... try getting info about flintlock's at the local store... heh.... i believe what's needed here is a basic rundown on what you need or what you should have and what you cant live without.... just a FAQ on BP shooting for us nooB's...

my interest is 50/50 range/hunting FYI.

Here in Manitoba, we have a 3 week muzzleloader season for deer right before the general rifle season. Usually last 2 weeks of October, first week of November. So there is quite a bit of interest in MZler's. Mostly inlines with very few traditionals. All the gun shops/sporting good stores, stock blackpowder supplies albeit sometimes limited.
