I want to get my wife out shooting with me and she is all for it. For a well made slightly inexpensive rifle for my wife, I was thinking of a Henry Golden Boy or their other octogon barreled .22Lr.

Would this be a good starter rifle or would a lever gun not be ideal for this? Thanks

Maybe a less intimidating gun like a single bolt . There are several on CGN for sale. The single is much "safer" as it holds only one live round. Also if she does not become interested, you have no great outlay. The less complicated the more confident they become.

I was going to get my wife into the sport by getting her a really nice new CZ bolt action target rifle, I forget the exact model. that gun was a really solid beautiful piece. But I went with diamond earrings instead....

I remeber days when my wife would get me expensive female fragnance for my birthday and I would buy her another rifle for her birthday. Then we got divorced...

She what SHE likes. There are sooooooo many different makes, models, brands, actions, etc., that it's a decision she can make. She might think that little Browning take-down auto loader is cute, or love the cowboy feel of a 9422.

as u well know from your shotgun prowess, fit is important.Let her try the feel of what is in the shops. Also the pride of having a nice gun helps in the shooting. The resale of higher quality ie; bruno, browning bolt, rem etc is always there. Buy something she likes & can hit with. Sucess breads injoyment. Just my 2 cents AJ

I'd say Remington 597 -pretty inexpensive and fun to shoot, she may not want to load for each shot...

PS: get a 30 round mag for it too :)

Here's how it's done...

So you want to get your wife interested in shooting?

Show her how to load your gun(s), then call her from work, tell her you've been cheating on her and that your on your way home to get your things! :runaway: :50cal:

This was posted as humour and should not be taken as actual advice! ;)

Hi:
I agree with another post... Take her to a gun store have her hold and feel the weight of all their 22's, cycle the actions, etc. Then let HER make the decision.
She will appreciate it more - and earn you bonus points for later......

That's what I think I will do. Guns that seem light to me might not seem light to her. She is only 4'11" (with shoes on :D).

Tried my old lady on the 1022 and she didnt like it. I am in the process of getting her a single shot 22lr right hand bolt. I am a leftie so my CZ leftie will not work too well. Try her out on the single shot -no clips or mags to load. Nice and simple so she can concentrate on the shooting first and get a feel for it. If she sticks to it then we go to the gun store so she can look at the choices and pick one she likes. Probably be a camo model if I know her. She likes the gun shop -she collects knives and she likes to shop while I am getting ammo etc.
