Wanting to try a 1911...any thoughts?

PARA Expert can be found for 6 to7 hundred, Shoot well. BUT they are stainless top and bottom under that black paint covering and yes they will gall. I smoothed the rails after each shooting till after 500 shots then kept well lubed.
Smith Wesson with stainless frame and blued slide are vastly under rated. Look for 1000 to 1500 bucks.

Just picked up a BUL commander in 9mm. Shot it today for the first time... Shot everything without issue, really smooth. Take a look at the BULs, nice guns.

Buy once cry once- picked up a Dan Wesson LASD in .45 thanks guys and gals of cgn!

Dan Wesson also makes Alloy commanders and CCO's in .45 and 9mm...the smaller 1911's are very slim and have a good balance. But for .45, Gov't steel frame will last forever and help with recoil, excellent starting choice.

A 1911 in 9mm is soft shooting and ammo is a lot less expensive than 45 ACP. I have a STI Trojan 9mm. All carbon steel, slim grips, sweet trigger and one of my most favourite pistols. They pop up on the EE on occasion. I just sold off a S&W M&P 45. Mostly because of ammo cost but also I could not get use to that trigger.

I have a LASD model in 9mm and it's phenomenal, fit and finish is top notch. The trigger is absolutely incredible on them as well, although a bit heavier it's so crisp you don't notice. The grips are super aggressive and overall it's definitely as good as you can get before going for a semi-custom/ custom 1911... Hard to beat for the money.
