I have a ruger hawkeye in 35 whelen, i thought about the 358 but there is little point, i may sell a 270 win bolt an replace with somethin in BLR, tthere isnt much choice in the lever between 243 and 35whelen(358win) but could go with a 270WSM or 300WSM, other choice i was thinkin is a marlin in 308 marlin express....?

Marlin's are easy to mount a scope onto. A Model 336C comes in .35 Remington.
"...in 308 Marlin Express....?..." Can you get the ammo and/or brass in Australia? I believe it's only made by Hornady with their LEVERevolution bullet.

I know it's not exactly new school but you should look into the Winchester 88 in .308. It is by far my favourite lever. If you are looking for a little more interesting caliber, go for the BLR in 358 (although I don't think they've made this for a while so it will still be older). Marlin guide gun in 45.70 would be a nice addition. All lever-lovers should own a Savage 99 in .300 savage. It's a beautiful vintage gun. Any of these could wear a nice scope and be used for brush hunting with a 1.5x4 scope or red dot.

.44 mag for moose???
Well, then why not a Puma in 454 Casull with a side mount and scope?
Light, good power and cheap compared to all other levers. If you do not want to spend too much $$$, it is a good option.
I believe Wanstalls has it in stock for 599.00, I bought mine from Cedar Valley for 500.00, but that was a special order, they don't usually have it.
You can also shoot 45LC hot loads if you cannot find 454 ammo right away.

BLR81 in .308WIN can and will do "most" anything, anytime, that a lever gun could be expected to do. This is as much the Caliber(.308WIN) as the action type.
Is it a tack driver @ 100 yds? No. Is it accurate enough for the effective range of the .308WIN versus the Big Game you choose to hunt? Yes it is.:canadaFlag:

According to Browning's website a new BLR is still available in .358 win for the MRSP of $900. w ww.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?cat_id=034&type_id=006&value=003B&cattype=034006. It's also available in 450 Marlin for those wanting the bigger bore.

Too bad there isn't a commercially produced lever rifle in .460 S&W. It would be able to shoot .460 S&W, 454 Casull, and 45 Colt. It would challenge the 45-70 in 45 caliber bush rifles with almost the same max power, yet the versatility of being able to fire lower powered common factory cartridges.
