Not sure if this should be In optics but any way.

I am getting a ruger M77 alaskan. I would like to have the option of using the irons
Looking for other peoples experances with the return to zero
And what your thoughts are about QD rings

I had the Warne QD rings on my Ruger Alaskan and I liked them, but they would not always return to an exact zero, usually after taking off and re-attaching they would occasionally shift the point of impact anywhere from 3/4" to 1.20" to the left of zero.
Elevation would always remain same.
I currently have a Warne QD set on a CZ550 and I'll admit to not removing them much but on that particular rifle point of impact has not shifted after taking on and off.
My 404 Jeffery wears a Leupold QD set and the scope on it always returns to zero.
However, these are just my findings.... others might have a different experience.

You posted a very good question, it would be nice to hear from others...
 
QD is a nice feature.

on my 375 ruger the warne QD ones didnt last and after three sets i gave up. i have all the parts sent from Warne as spare in the field.

the recoil killed the springs ... other than that the system is working great and even if not zero at 100 m this is very accurate return to your setting.

my other option was the burris to weaver adapt but in that case the open sights are no more visible ...

Prophet River carries QD Talley's and is a site sponsor. I was torn between them and Warne for my CZ 550 in Full Stock and ended going for the Warne for no other reason then I liked the looks of them better ( better lines I think). I haven't tested the ability to return to zero yet but that is the whole point so most certainly intend to.

The lightness of the Talley's certainly sound appealing and may have been a good fit on my CZ with a compact or lighter scope.

While I currently don't have a set for my 375 Ruger Alaskan (yet - they're on my "to get" list), I do have a set for my Brno ZKK602 375 H&H, and another set on my Brno ZG47 7x57. I like them better functionally than Talleys, but the biggest thing I like about them is that they also offer them in a Low height, not just the Med and High that Talley does. This does require having the bolt handle scallloped slightly, but allows for a more natural cheek weld - my only beef with Talleys is that they are waaaaayyyy to high for my liking.

Now those look great and I love the option of a low ring for my CZ. Do you think the bolt would have to be altered on the 550 as well?
 
the Alaska arms rings I think are going to be ordered soon. seam like a quality set. I will be calling in the new year to have a chat

That depends - I don't have a CZ to try them on, but some CZs that I've seen over the last few years appear to have the bolt handle bent/forged with a curve to it instead of the straight bolt handle on my rifles, so maybe they will fit without altering? The best bet would be to drop Alaska Arms an email and they will sort that out quickly - I've found them to be very quick with their replies and VERY helpful. Great company to deal with.
