Well, I had a battle pack of this crap. I bought it at the Regina gun show in Feb.

It caused my M14 to short stroke (and as a result I chopped some parts thinking it was the rifle). I am lucky that that`s all that happen. Some of you have read about my struggle with this gun (it was the ammo in fact). If you haven`t, here is the thread and what I went through:

www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=445674

I found out today from two different sources that the Israeli TZ 80 (and probably other years too) is total s**t that should go into the garbage, not your gun.

I was talking with a guy who wrecked his 700 Remington by shooting this ammo. It happened on his third round from the first box. His chamber split.

Then, by some miracle, I came across this post on WarRifles.com:

Through that post, I got to this one:

And I hear that there are endless stories about how bad this ammo is.

I am lucky that I didn`t destroy my gun. It only shot like crap and fouled up my components. I cleaned my gun and I got new parts on the way. It still shoots like a dream but with SA ammo.

If you have some of this TZ 80 garbage laying around, I hope you think long and hard before you put it though your rifle. At the very least do some research.

That`s my story and my warning to you, for what it`s worth.

About 10 years ago Milarm was selling 7.62 Israeli military Ball TZ80 in sealed 500 round steel military ammo containers, the ammo inside was packed in sealed white 20 rnd cardboard boxes and was Lot 12-80. Though some of the brass may be very slightly tarnished the overall condition was very good. I haven‘t heard any bad reports from this lot, unless...

I don't know, from what I'm reading on many forums, you are playing with your life and/or your safety. I personally am just going to steer clear of any TZ surplus, regardless of the year.

Check out what these guys have to say about it; it's not good at all:

Time to get a collet bullet puller, pull the bullets for reloading, and scrap the rest. I think I remember reading about TZ 80 ammo being NFG on another forum a few years ago.

Good to hear you found the problem. I read your other post and was scratching my head on that issue. Hope you are not out to much cash for the crappy ammo.

- So, we can't get Wolf or Black Bear in major quantities, but the IDF gets to dump their crap on our market and it sails past our 'regulators'? Hmmm.....

I had some TZ80 Israeli surplus. Shot about 40 rds through my M14, no problems at all and it shot 2 inches tighter than the SA I have. But I sold the rest of my lot to another CGNer to buy some reloading stuff. Haven't heard anything from him, hope the rest of the lot worked as well as what I shot.

Apparently a batch of extreme pressure ammo will be made up so it can fall into the hands of insurgents. This takes care of insurgents using captured rifles very nicely. Apparently the CIA would do this in Vietnam with 5.56 and 7.62x39. Five or ten percent of the ammo in a case would be extremely high pressure or a pressure high enough to knock the gun out of service. A couple of cases with high pressure ammo inserted randomly could take a significant number of firearms inoperable in a fire fight. A batch of this could have found its way to the surplus market.
And sometimes ammo that is not to spec gets surplussed rather than destroyed. The first case of chi com ammo surplus ammo that I purchased in 7.62x39 that put a 123 grain bullet out the spout at 2650 fps. The SKS I shot this stuff through ate it without a problem. It worked reliably but the action cycle slam would be as load as the muzzle blast.
The next case the gun cycled quietly and muzzle blast was much reduced. Velocity also dropped to 2350 fps with a 123 grain bullet.
A testament to the strength and durability of the SKS.

Add Israeli 7.62 to the list of suspect ammo, alongside Brazillian CBC remanufactured in Chile by FAMAE.

I bought a case of CBC at a good price knowing its reputation. Then I had an offer to get the bullets pulled and the powder replaced. Single use heavily crimped Berdan primerd cases, but better than no ammo.

Seeing as a lot of the problems with this ammo are case head failures, I would not trust the brass.

I fired off a box or two of the TZ80 stuff a while back, and I recall having a few holes burned through the brass on some of the spent casings. Never used it again.

My remaining surplus is all Portugese and SA ball, I reload the rest.
