Well looking at those pictures, its pretty clear they don't take AR mags....
They are NOT, I repeat NOT AR compatible. They are a proprietary design just for this system.
\EPIC fail.
Why the heck would you make something that would only accept 5 rounds...
LOL

Are there SKS's on the market commercially that can shoot more than 5 shots legally?

I think what they are saying is "Why spend over 3 times the asking price for an SKS that functions the exact same as a stock one" And I agree, making a mag well for it and it still only shoots 5 rounds is kind of a fail. It looks cool, but I would never spend this kind of cash , then more money for mags just to shoot it the exact same way I do with mine with my ATI stock. I don't get it either, if you look at the mag adapter for the VZ 58 thread, soooo many people are asking for the same thing for the SKS, I am shocked no one has come out with something like it yet.
People will still buy this, its cool, but I can even imagine how many more would buy it if it accepted the XCR mags.
And no, there is not any SKS that does shoot more then 5 legally, I am guessing me and a few other people were hoping this would be the one that would.

Thats the whole point. Why waste time and money developing proprietary mags that only hold 5.
The only reason I can see why they did this is to make more money off the consumer. which is a shame when better mags are available.
I just spoke with the manufacturer again regarding the magazines and hopefully this clears things up completely in shedding a little light on the situation. The magwell on the new chassis will in fact house AR magazines. The problem with designing the chassis to accept AR's was that there are several variants of the SKS rifles from 1949-1956, some would not take specific mags because of that small change in the upper receiver and feeding was an issue. They would have had to make 3 separate chassis and 3 types of mags. This magazine works on all types which is why it had to be it the way it is. The end user is able to alter the receiver on their SKS to accept AR mags if they're so inclined by removing a small amount of material on the receiver and drilling a hole for the release on the opposite side. They have not yet been able to test the platform with an XCR magazine yet as all the suppliers have been out of stock but it is something they plan on testing as soon as they can get one to test it with.
Hope this helps clarify things.
To mod the sks to fit AR mag it's not only by removing a little part of the receiver, the mag need to be at a good degree to feed well, and a far as i see,i dont think it will work with their stock that have the mod tapco mag and their own mag.
I hear what you're saying and I think that it is a fair statement. I'm not the manufacturer, merely a retailer. I'm still excited about it because it's the only aluminum detachable box mag chassis system in the world and for mounting optics there simply isn't a better or more reliable system. Taking the XCR mags would have been a good idea and I will certainly give that feedback to the manufacturer, maybe in the future they'll consider going that route.
Thanks to you all for the feedback and I will pass it all forward.
