Was kind of thinking of buying another SKS

Why Think about it, just do it.
Nah, just a novelty gun for me. The 49 is cool and all, but not when I've seen them sold for $199 out of the crate, so I'm out at $450 (close to $500 in the end). Regardless of it's potential value in years to come.
If I owned it, I would never sell it. So it's future value is a moot point for me. Just a safe space taker that could be occupied by a rifle that's actually shooter.

I don't own a rifle that I consider a future investment. I simply buy what I enjoy, and because this '49 is a mild refurb (stock replaced and maybe some rebluing) it will see some non-corrosive down the bore. When you think about it, even at $500 it's still a bargain. What can you find new for that price that compares in quality and interestingness? Not much outside the milsurp spectrum. Life is short, go for it. ;)

No doubt man. Congrats, I'm glad you were able to complete your collection with that rifle.

Can someone please explain to me what the attraction is with these guns?? I have shot them and they don't exactly excite me. A buddy of mine is on my ass to buy one. Give me a good reason and I will be all in.

How about the fact that they are stone axe reliable, extremely robust, and accurate for a semi (using quality commercial ammo). They look great in original form IMHO. You can do ALOT worse with far MORE money. And yeah, you can also turn them into Battlestar Gallactica Mall Ninja Destroyers.

I grabbed one of the '49s as well, but I hold out hope for an original birch stock rifle someday.
Even the numbers matching/stock refurb laminate '49s have been known to sell for north of $1000 in the US.

Try north of $1700 to $1800... The non-refurb 1953 Izhevsk's, depending on condition, are going north of $2000 !

And they are fun to shoot. I think thats because its so affordable you don't worry about it when you pull the trigger all day.

You just have no will power;);)and most of us don't either.

Not a condition I'm looking to fix either. Now I am deep into the research about these rifles. Fortunately, my buddy lives close and he has several of them. I will probably leave this in its original form but maybe modify it to take a standard magazine if that is possible. Do you guys know if you can have it loaded, with the bolt closed and no round in the chamber? I am not asking from a legal point of view but for carrying in the bush.

Yeah, I'm running out of room to, and I have a complete room converted! ;) This most recent purchase is my last, at least for a while. I need to find time to shoot the darn things instead of cleaning cosmo. ;) Now only if I didn't waste $850 on a Kel-Tec S2K + accessories... I could have purchased 3 more premium SKS's.
