Washing your clothing ?

Before a hunting trip I wash all my gear as per manufacturer instructions with no scent detergent and hang dry outside. When we are moose hunting we use stink sticks and spray bull urine stuff to mask our scent.

I suppose anything is better than aroma boost lilac lavender infused scent boosters plus bounce.

Good point about the gun oil stink, that being said they seem to love the smell of a chainsaw or maybe its the noise???

If they can smell your gun oil, they can smell your breath, sweat, etc. No matter what you washed your clothes in, that you took a shower with scent free soap and applied scent free deodorant, it doesn't matter the moment you start your day and start emitting human scent.

IMO, scent free products a gimmick. Sure, it's better than using super scented products, but ultimately they will smell you anyway.

They love the lichen/old man’s beard hanging on the dead snags branches, more so late season from what I notice. Anytime there’s snow on the ground and I’m getting firewood there’s always deer waiting on the edge to get it once I’m loaded up and going to drop off a load of wood. I figure they associate the saw noise with a tasty snack.

As far as washing my clothes, we use scent free detergent but I can’t say I wash my outer layers ever. Not do I wash my wool sweaters, I pay more attention to sitting still and paying attention to which way the wind is blowing at that time of day. I know animals will smell me regardless of what I do, I’ve watched bucks creep in and can tell by body language that they know someone is nearby but I’ve kept still and at the ready and they weren’t able to figure out where I was till it was too late.

Any perfume-free laundry soap (whatever's on sale) in warm water. Then into the dryer or onto the line. I highly doubt that deer or moose is fooled by hunting soap. In fact, your clothes aren't even the stinkiest thing about you when you're out hunting. All your gear stinks, your breath smells like last night's burger and beer or this morning's toothpaste and coffee, you can't get "human" smell out of shoes, hats or hair - nothing will. Work the prevailing wind properly, and leave the junk on the shelf at Canadian Tire. Just one guy's opinion.

Wash normally with all the laundry soap. Wash again without any soap. Hang dry. Had bucks walk up to 20 feet away while I was using a deer grunt tube.

I washed my outer clothes last year for the first time in 3 yrs. The do's and don'ts of washing, scent control, to cammo or not, wind direction, etc. are pretty much individual choice. Personally, I try to minimize my odor footprint and be conscious of wind direction. As to cammo, I remove my blaze orange when I'm still and in my blind. Though I've never seen interlopers on our hunting property, I like the idea of being invisible (or near to) to anybody who may wander into my hunting area. BTW, as per my research, I used Woolite to wash my clothes and my outfit was washer and dryer safe if you used the suggested settings.

3 years ago I was sitting on a rock in blaze orange with maybe 14-16’ elevation over a ash swamp that had some bait placed out in it. I was facing the bait at 12 o clock scanning and an older guy came in at about 4 o clock and stopped maybe 55yards out. He stood there staring at the bait for 30+min and never noticed me until I got up and waved my vest for several minutes. It was interesting watching him in the binos, I’ve never seen someone so hyper focused. Like the bait was going to spontaneously turn into a deer.
