So I took a break from yotes for one weekend, plus to become a better yote hunter I figured having a realistic decoy couldn't hurt.

Saw four we got three:

The one that goe away was a huge Jack, probably bigger than all three of these combined........Ahh well I'm happy with how the day turned out.

#6's 12g 2-3/4

Now They are skinned I don't want to waste the fur, how do I preserve it? I want to make decoys out of them for the yotes. Please give me a step by step to preserve the fur.

Nice cottontails, those jacks sure do look huge in comparison. To preserve rabbit skin to use as coyote decoys, just tack them to a board (fur side down) and keep applying salt to the flesh side till they are completely dry. They won't last forever this way, but you should get a few years out of them and its cheap and easy.

I would also suggest that you remove as much of the fat and grizzle from the hide as well, don't get too picky but the more excess you remove the longer the hide will last. Salt works good, and so does Borax.

Either salt or borax will make the hide pretty stiff once its dried. Working it back and forth over the edge of a board (hairless side against the board) should soften it up.

Brown??? Step away from the crack pipe, the fumes are affecting ur vision my friend.

Don't do drugs, but do have a few drinks once in a while. Around here rabbits are white in the winter. In the Spring when the snow is gone they make really good targets for a short while.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that he might have been a lousy hunter and made off with some kid's pets.:p

I have been accused of a lot of stuff in my life but killing pet rabbits would have been a new low, just your plain old cottontails my friend. Sorry for the drug refrence thought maybe your colours were off.

Punch me where it hurts why don't you!

Just kidding its going great, I have a 30% sucess ratio so far. Went out 9 times since dec 1st? Killed 2, wounded 1 (he was found a couple days later by a neighbour). Love hunting them. That's why I'm making these realistic bunny decoys! They are soaking in borax right now.
