So season closed yesterday and I got started on next years deer slayer.

Picked up a Weatherby Lasermark made somewhere around 1984 or 85 by the serial number. It's chambered in 257 Wtby and it's the 5 panel model. Never really knew what that was till I started googling it up and realised mine had the extra laser panel near the end of the buttstock. It also came with 9 boxes of once fired brass and a set of dies so I've only got 340 days to find a load it likes, haha. It came with a cheapy Bushnell Banner 3-9X Lite Site and I took it off right away, gotta replace it with a nice Leupold. I put new batteries in the thing and it still works great and not a scratch on it, the more I fiddle with it the more I wanna keep it and put it on an old rimfire for laughs.

So now I just gotta go shopping for a 3-9 or 4-12 power Leupy and bases and I'll be good to go. If anyone has a kick ass load for something over 100 gr let me know. Gotta throw these casings into some crushed walnut and get em shiny again and then it's playtime. Can't even put it in the safe or my Savages are gonna gang up on it.

Good for you! Those boxes are classic. If you want to part with one let me know.
100gr Barnes TTSXs and RL22 are your friend.
The 25-06 AI I'm rolling loves the bullets.

Barnes or 110 accubonds and RL22, ill probably always have a 257 weatherby for deer/caribou but would not hesitate to use it on bigger game if its what I had in my hands.

Originally I was thinking coyote rifle but the more I fondle this thing the more I wanna take it out for deer.

Just seems like a whole lot of speed for hunting in the hardwoods but it's the shot placement, not the caliber.

Nice looking rifle in a great calibre, always wanted one. Since your looking at new mounts & rings
and if your looking for something very "smooth" looking, try Conetrol. I put them on my Weatherby
and they sure "fit" the looks of the rest of the gun. JMHO --- John

I caution you regarding the rl22 suggestions. I have tested that powder in several cartridges but especially in the 257 wbys I have. From 3600fps with a 100gr barnes in the summer it went to 3420fps in -15c. Don't know if its cold where you hunt but last day of deer season for me was Dec 15 and I was out in -39c. I use h1000 in the 257 wbys and its much better.

Check out the VX-R 3-9x40. Pretty close to a vx3, but the firedot is great for bush hunting and dusk/dawn shooting...there's a few in the EE...

I put one on my moose rifle, love it...

Nothing Shoots Faster or ?hits Harder than a Weatherby !!!
Congrats on the new to you deer slayer !
Umm, you interested in selling one of those cartridge boxes ??
Just an empty one if you where to be inclined to part with one :)
Thanks for sharing the pics and keep us posted on how she shoots.

They are nice, but for me it is hard to justify the price on a hunting rifle when there are so many good options out there. I've had Redding, Beuhler and Leupold mounts on Mk. V's and they all worked flawlessly.
