When you think of all the $$ that go into a custom 10/22, it is very compairable. Plus you get the VQ stainless receiver.
 
Well, I guess you have to pay for quality.....I just recieved my brand new
VQ .17HMR in the mail today. It has taken nearly seven months to get. I think it is gorgeous, and have a complete stainless steel receiver, that isn't all that bad either. Similar to precision competition rifles, you can buy a Remington and get it all "fixed" up, or you can buy a full custom action etc. They both will do similar things, but just go about it in different ways....:)

The biggest problem with both the 17Mach2,and the 17HMR is ammunition selection,it is limited,unlike the 22lr which offers such a huge selection.Luckily mine does well with the Eley,since I can get it at the lowest price.I have 12,000 rounds on hand right now,so I am good to go next spring.My next investment will likely be a couple of 10shot Anschutz magazines for my Cooper.
 
Build a 10/22 Magnum into a comparable rifle to the OP's and it won't be far off the $1600 price tag.The Mach 2 is not really comparable to the HMR overall, so it's not a fair comparison on costs.

Since my cost comparison was for the same 17Mach2 cartridge,it is a fair comparison.

I'd love to post pictures of my new VQ, but to be honest, I don't know how.
I bought the Deluxe model, with the beige non-thumbhole stock, fluted barrel and the VQ compensator that I happen to like. I had a VQ .22lr for years and sold it about a year ago...a stupid thing to do. I also have the same gun coming in a .22lr with a gray stock. It should be here by Christmas.
I had a beautiful Anschutz .22lr model 1710 with the Monte Carlo stock that I shouldn't have sold either, a year ago. I prefer the semi -auto for live gopher hunting anyways. I use these guns for off hand only so they don't have to be benchrest guns.:)
 
Just curious but this VQ stuff is basically 10/22 all suped up and magical?

Does the action fit in your average 10/22 stock? These look awesome

Anthing 22LR and .17 HM2 does. The magnum stocks are a little different then the typical 10/22 Magnum Stocks.
