Watchers of the North

Surprising that they have to draw up their own targets on cardboard. Also surprising that they are not using the battle aperture at 200m.

Looks like sled dogs are long gone.

We didn't hear anyone complain about the No.4 rifle, but this is a DND production of course!

The Warrant Officer doing the swearing in: "...and bear true alliance to Her Majesty..." f:P:

You can see how affected some of them are by even that very basic, and to us unimpressive ceremony. That suggests to me a definite lack of recognition or any kind of coming of age ceremony in the culture today. That was both a bit sad and touching.

More close order drill might seem totally irrelevant, but I suspect the sense of pride and confidence that comes from doing it well might be very beneficial.

Just listening to them you get a sense of how the environment has shaped the mentality up there.

Good link; worth seeing.

I enjoyed watching that. I live in the wrong place to join, so I'll just stick with Volunteer Firefighting and joining up with Search and Rescue.

On a side note... I am quite jealous of their mint-condition-never-before-issued Lee Enfields :xes
