Water Spots on Stock

Get some appropriately colored Kiwi, paste style shoe polish. Warm it up and apply to the spotted areas. May take a couple of applications but it works well as a sealer and is easily touched up.

I've been using it on oil finished, wood stocks for fifty years.

Oil finished stocks are supposed to be given a light coating of fresh oil about once a year if used fairly often. And even more often if you take them out in the rain. My shotgun used for cowboy matches gets a couple of drops of boiled linseed spread around on it sometime in the fall each year or when I see that the water no longer beads up on it in the rain.... Ya, we keep shooting even in the rain.

While my oil finished stocks get to where they don't bead up water I've never had any develop water spots. Do you know what oil it was that Cooper used? Or is it just a pretty old rifle?
