Waterfoul Ammo... What works best for you?

use kent faststeel 3" #3 for both ducks and geese. 12 gauge rem 870 express with modified choke tube. does what it is supposed to if i do my part. pattern your gun with different ammo to see what works best. i have found when using steel shot it is speed that kills and the more pellets in your pattern the better.

I use 3" Kent Fasteel out of a Briley LM choke for my waterfowl hunting. I use #2, or #1 for geese, and #3 for ducks.. I don't have any use for 3-1/2" loads, or the high tech loads.

We shoot a lot of birds each year. 6 buddies come up from US each year. 1 shoots Black Cloud, 2 shoot Blind Side, and the rest of us shoot mostly Winchester. The guys from the states started with Heavy Steel but found less $$ shot works just as well. I shoot #2 at both ducks & geese. Over decoys anything 4s or larger will knock them down. Try for there heads. Try to get a few guys together & pick up as many different boxes of shells as you can. Pattern them in each gun, all will pattern different. Start with mod. choke and work down. The best pattern at 35-40 yds is the go to for your gun. This is how I do it, other ways may work as well or better. The end is find what works and just have fun. Good luck AJ

I use 2 3/4-inch # 3 Kent Faststeel for ducks but have been buying Score 'cause it's a lot cheaper.

Didn't have a chance to pattern it though, just went hunting.

I've been using Kent 3-inch BBs and Winchester 3-inch BB for geese, but don't have much opportunity for geese in my neck of the woods. Gonna buy some Score 3-inch BBs soon.

I bought 3 flats of 3" Score 1 1/8 oz BB and 2's for $12/box on sale. I used to use Winchester, but have found them to be sub standard. The Winchester chronograph >100 FPS slower than what they are rated for and the BB's are all misshaped. The Score shells have nice round BB's and chronograph at 1550 just like they are rated. For $14 a box regular price there is no reason to not give them a try and see how they pattern in your gun.

As with many other responders, Kent has served me well, but this year I decided to try some Score steel shot since it is half the price. We'll see if it's half the shell.

Remington Hypersteel 3" #2 out of a Benelli Super Vinci or Super Sport depending on my mood with a modified cylinder. Deadly out to around 50-60 yards. This is for Canada Goose.

I shoot #4 kents for pintails and teals and 2#s for geese or mallards. Benelli m2 & super nova, modified carlsons choke. Kills em dead. Heavy shot was great too, patterns equal to kents. Have shot black cloud and federal which were decent but kents pattern better for me and are cheaper!

Hate steel. Can't use it. Patterned my gun fine, but can't get any range/energy out of it. I have peppered ducks with steel and they act stunned, shake it off and fly away. I sure do miss lead. For now, I like 3.5" hevi shot, no2.
