Waterfowl Hunting Question

I use steel for waterfowel but buy every box of lead I find for $5 or less to shoot crows and we shoot a lot of crows. We had a wounded goose at approx 30yards standing and after unloading two guns using steel we had to run it down to kill so I am not surprised about your grouse story.

I talked with a CO here in Ontario and they said not to have lead with you at all while duck hunting. I gave the example of walking into a duck pond hunting grouse and then switching to non toxic when getting to the pond. Having been stopped twice in the past few years I can say they definitely check your ammo.

And I agree with your steel story, the stuff is just about useless.

laws are different everywhere. In Alberta it states that you may not "hunt migratory birds" with lead shot. It does not say you cannot possess it while hunting them.

With the federal law stating:
"Possess for the purpose of hunting of migratory birds"

Then legally you can hunt ducks in AB with a few lead shells in your pocket for grouse and crows. The game warden might still give you a hard time if he doubts the purpose of your possession however.
