I think that's pretty straight forward :p is it worth it to buy tungstene matrix shells( i looked at the kent ones). They seem to be slower (1300 fps vs 1500 fps) than lots of other types of cartriges such as highvelocity and stuff.

What do you guys think about it?

It's not really worth it. The hevi shot however is. Tungsten matrix has been cancelled, Kent has stopped making it due to rising cost of tungsten.

The only 1500fps shells you will find are steel. It's tough to get lead moving that quick with a hunting load.

They do have better 'knockdown' power than steel, but... only your wallet will tell you if it's 'worth it'. :)

I use it in one of my guns because the gun has fixed chokes and it is an expensive gun.

Otherwise I just use steel, or heavishot if I was expecting longer ranges or geese.

It is worth it in the right circumstances. If I am using my fixed choke sxs I use Kent TM 2-3/4" #5. It's great for ducks over decoys.

On a local property where I have permission to hunt the landowners don't want me using lead or plastic wads so I use Kent 2-1/2" TM with fiber wads.

But if I'm out with the regular duck hunters at Long Point I'm using 3" Hevi-Shot in my Beretta 391.

Kent TM is worth the price in specific situations. The rest of the time I'm using Hevi-Shot.

Can't speak for the Tungsten but Hevi-Shot is the cat's pyjamas. Expensive but very good. What I'll be doing this year is putting a Hevi-Shot round in the mag first, then load up with good quality steel. The premise is that they can be called in close and you'll get two shots with relativly cheap steel (at close range where it's effective) and you last shot will be Hevi-Shot that's effective at long range.

TM is a great waterfowl load. The closest thing there is to lead. Hevi is awesome also, as can be Bismuth.

Bottomline to me, is hitting the birds you are shooting at.

Out to 35 yards, a good steel load will kill any duck or goose on the planet.

I do shoot some TM, but not often. Just not worth it in my opinion, if you have a good steel load.

A good patterning steel load will likely kill more ducks then a crappy patterning TM load.

It's certainly worth it if you've got a fine old fowling poiece you want to get back in action. That's the only reason I ponied up the money for a bunch this fall.

Kent TM

I have used TM alot in recent years and its a mighty impressive product, esp. late in the season when the birds get blind shy and don't decoy quite as close. I mostly shoot a 20 gauge gun at waterfowl and the killing effectiveness of TM is great. If you can afford to use TM then you should because Nothing out there kills better with the exception of Hevi shot. If you do decide to buy some, buy lots because its about to take a huge price increase.
