Generally speaking the daily bag limit for ducks is 8 with a possession limit of 24.

Does that mean you can have three days of hunting in your actual possession in your vehicle for example?

Or is that the total possession limit you are allowed in the freezer from hunting all season?

For example: If I have two mallards left from the previous 2016-2017 season and have 24 from the 2017-2018 season in my home am I over the possession limit?

I believe water fowl regs are nation-wide.
 
It's 6 ducks in Ontario per person per day; with a max of 18 for duck per person for possession.

No, that would still put you over your daily bag limit.

You can't shoot more than your bag limit in a day, and you can't be in possession of more than the possession limit at any time. For waterfowl, any birds in your freezer ect at home count towards possession limit.

By giving away birds you lower your possession count but not your bag limit.

You may only retain your possession limit which in your case is 24 HOWEVER a person does not need a hunting license or migratory permit to possess game therefore you may GIFT your two ducks from 2016 to your wife, child, father, mother, aunt, cousin , roommate, friend etc, etc, etc and those birds are no longer in your possession even if they are kept in the same freezer. Just make sure they are labelled to the person possessing them.
