Hey all,

Been hunting for the past 6 years but this year I went out for the first time goose hunting with a friend and now I've been seriously hooked. Haven't gotten a goose yet but I did manage to down a nice mallard and it was fine eating.

Problem I am having is that I can only hunt every other week with the person that has access to fields in the area. I am thinking of trying hunting from the water and wondering if anyone has an idea of good public access points for some waterfowling? I am thinking maybe trying Clayton lake or the carp/mississipi rivers (if I can find a launch point).

Not really sure who/where to ask as to where shooting is legal on the water at various point.

Also, if anyone has contacts or tips on talking to some farmers for access I am all ears! I'm fairly new to the area but I figure being an Almonte local and having worked at the Stittsville range will help, and I can always offer labour or machining time in compensation.

I'm all ears, and gunning to get out again. Already have the decoys and just need a place to go!

Anywhere along the river is always a good bet. From Appleton to Almonte, you can launch at either end, in Appleton at the bottom of the hill, in the bay, and in Almonte at the fairgrounds. I'm not sure about the stretch between Almonte and Blakeney, or from there to Pakenham. But from Pakenham to Galletta is pretty easy to do from the launch off the highway in Pakenham.

Great, thanks for the info! Looking at the maps there looks to be a good marshy spot where the river meets dwyer hill, althought the wetlands near appleton would probably be good too if there are no issues hunting there. I'll check them out, thanks again!

Well, wanted to say thanks again. Went out this morning, didn't get anything but did see a lot of action. Need to get in shape though, paddling the canoe 3.5km back to town against the wind sucked, haha. Definitely going to head out again!
