I purchased a Walther G22 from P&D about 4 years ago when they first got them in stock. I think I paid somewhere around $600.00 for it, since then I haven't really seen any for sale anywhere. I'm aware there was some classification issues with these rifles a while back but when I called the CFC yesterday to update my PAL info they still have it as non resricted. It's been sitting in the safe for about the past two years and I don't forsee it getting much more use (I shot it a fair bit when I first got it as well as accessorized and de-accessorized it so it has some "character" marks). Just wondering if anyone has any Idea how much I should be putting it up for? Rifle comes with 2 mags and case.

Well that really sucks! You'd think they'd re classify it or something so It's not in limbo. When I mentioned that I had heard there might be an issue to the CFC people they sounded like they didn't even know what I was talking about.

I talked to the CFC on Monday regarding mine they told me they could transfer it. Btw I managed to get 3 mags before things became confusing. If any of you guys want to try a transfer send me a PM.

Just a few months earlier I was trying to buy one and it gone through approval at one end of the deal but wasn't approved at higher level. Explanation was "yes it is non-restricted, hovewer it can only be transferred to business, not a person" and then there must have been another round in court, I think it was December 2008 somewhere. MAybe things changed by that court decision. I was prepared to pay 800$ for it. For 400 I would buy it, or even 600$ - I think that was a price tag in states. If it is trasferrable I am buying and, make a note, I am first in line;)

Who did you speak to? because when I called today

The whole gun is prohibited according to the FRT. I’m going to try and speak to a Tech tomorrow to get further explanation and ask for it in writing will keep you all posted

I called the CFC number from AB and spoke to one of the reps. I asked them about the status of my rifle. They had zero clue what was going on. I was placed on hold while they searched their database? or spoke to a superior using the cert and firearm #'s I gave them. They then told me there would be no issue with a transfer of that rifle. I am not entirely sure who has the last call in granting a tranfer of a non-restricted firearm. I do not know if the Provincial CFO offices have the final say over such a transfer or not.

The FRT and status is federal the provicial CFO has zero say, it should be the same thoughout the country. I'm just saying what I was told today. I'll let you know what I find out. I think the action and barrel are ok it is the stock that is an isue for it is a prohib device.

What happens if someone is shooting a G22 out in the bush, and some cop comes by and says "hey that stock is a prohibited device." Then he lays a charge for possession of a prohibited device.

Is there any defence to that charge, and would it hold up in court?

I used to have the P22 pistol to match. The mag body is pretty much identical but the base plate is different. I don't know if a slightly modified P22 mag would work.
Thank klrklr for keeping us posted on what the RCMP says about it. I am eagerly awaiting hopefully good news.

Yes. The BS reasoning is that the internals can function independently of the stock.

Damnit, I meant to make my replies into one post...

I have both a G22 and a P22. Like SLANTO said the mag bodies look similar, but you'd have to totally mangle the base to make them interchangeable, in which case they would be useless because you'd have nothing to grab on to to insert and remove them easily.
