I have a Watson front sight on one of my rifles. It is a tube type. Does anyone know of the company? I need an insert.
I tried several but they are all too large in diameter. THe proper insert is about 0.45 " in dia.

THanks again,

Are you sure it's made for an insert?

I've seen the Watson front sights and ya, even though they are a tube like front sight, all the ones I've seen had a red bead permanently afixed inside of the tube.

Watson was a sight company out of Niagara falls iirc. I have one of their tang sights for one of my Savage 1899's.

Watson sight

THank you for replying. THis tube has a knurled front section that unscrews. There is a retaining shoulder inside to prevent whatever insert was there from moving. THe back end of the tube is knurled also but it is strictly cosmetic . I take it then that this was not the original front sight on my Winchester 54?

Nope, wouldn't be the original sight.

Watsons began in Creemore Ont in 1896 then moved to Niagara Falls in 1910. When they got their patents they moved to Toronto in 1923.

About the only guy I know that you would have any chance of finding an insert for your sight would be a guy on Ebay named Pallet25 who is at alot of the Ontario gun shows. His name is Paul and I used to have his email addy but can't seem to find it now. His wife Leeanne (I think) does most of the computer stuff, real nice lady. He seems to have an over abundance of Watson sights and parts. I've bought a few Watson 1" apertures off him over the last couple years and I see he has some of the front sights listed evey now and then but Watson is a pretty rare sight, especially a tang sight to come across, they didn't make alot of them back in the day. Good luck.
