I have a Macmillan stock made for the Remington Custom shop used in their KS series and inletted for a Rem 700 long action. Can I use this stock for a WBY Vanguard in 257 WBY? The stock is an ADL style but I was thinking of using an Remington triggerguard anyway. I was wondering if the inletting is close enough to bed the Vanguard into it without major problems? Thanks for any information. Steve

I don't have a Wby Vanguard handy but are they not a flat bottomed action closer to a Win M70 than a Rem 700 ?
Either way your only dealing a glass stock so get your router and dremel tools out and have at er ! Make sure you have some AccraGel or JB handy for the reconstruction job.
Remember nothin is impossible when it comes to fixin what your about to do, LOL!!

Anything can be done if you have enough Acraglass and don't care how it looks when you are finished.

You are taking an expensive stock and possibly butchering it....

.....before you start measure the depth of your Vanguard stock carefully where the screws are and the trigger - compare that to the Remington stock. This is one area where you can make it work but it may look crappy...

....the other is to compare the tang, the lug, and the screws holes - how much different.... where the bolt handle closes - how close is that...

Is the stock kevlar....... if it is - that is a real pain to rework....

I think you would be way ahead to simply sell your Remington stock if you don't have a need for it....

Are you sure that Rem. custom shop use McMillan stocks??? I'm pretty sure it'a Bell and Carlson or something crap like that. I think that if it is a McMillan, they would tell it in their publicity...

a long action Vanguard is a near drop-in in a Sako L61R/AV stock...but not a 700, but like Dennis said, "if you use enough Acraglass...."...and squinting real hard might help too...

Remington Custom shop stocks

In the '80's, the Remington Custom Shop used both Brown Precision and MacMillan for their KS line of rifles. These were made to Remington's pattern. The Brown tends to be a little lighter than the Macmillans. I do not know what they are using now. Steve

Steve, I did something similar to your project awhile back. I made up an aluminum insert, then hogged the action area out, bolted the action to the block, glassed the insert in,added 2 countersunk crossbolts, epoxied up the open spaces and finished the exterior. This was a Brown Precision stock that I put on my Sako 358STA. I don't recall what the stock was from originally,I got it at a gunshow. Mark
