What are the options for a lightweight stock for the Vanguard? I have a 270 Phlamer here that is almost 9lbs scoped. Not the end of the world for this rifle, just considering options down the road.

I am aware of the McM Edge but would like to hear of other options and would like to stay with the same stock style if possible.

B&C make one in the same style....
Other then that Hogue, HS Precision, McMillan, and some modular stocks out there.

My t3 light is only about 1.2 lbs lighter than the vanguard. Both scoped. I noticed the fluting in the bolt doesn't reduce the weight that much. Lol. Smaller lighter scope and rings? Alloy bolt handle. I think it's going to be a game of ounces at a time.

I believe wildcat composites will do one as I've spoken to him about doing one for me. He said he has done one in the past and it is doable with a bit extra work.....not sure about extra cost involved. He did mention that he probably couldn't do the ultra light 17 Oz model but figured it would weigh just over 20 Oz. Perhaps if a few of us put in an order at about the same time he could get geared up for it....some incentive.

I would be game for that, if priced competitive.

MPI does their Mountain Rifle Style for the Howa/Vanguard as far as I know, Not sure if Robertson Composites does the Howa/Vanguard, but they have some nice looking lightweights, I see these guys in NZ do nice looking Carbon fiber stocks (www.facebook.com/senator.riflestocks).

Now there is a thought.

Hey SC what style would you be looking for......classic straight........ monte carlo........ cheek piece.........Wby? I might be interested in 1 depending on which style you're thinking.

I think a lighter scope and rings and bases are the easiest way to same weight. I find Leupold scopes are usually the lightest ones available.

I would like to see another in the same style but a classic straight would work as well.

Either way, I will have to wait on this project if I do go ahead. I have spent a lot this year so far on other items (not guns) and need to get caught up a bit w/o maxing out the card. I am in the "checking it out stage" with this one. :)
