WC-735 Surplus Powder

Never being a fellow to overlook a cost saving, I ordered 4 lbs. of the aforementioned powder from Higginson's today for $58 (plus the usual bumflufferies). I spoke to Andrew on the phone and while he said that people have reported positively about WC-735 in .308 Winchester, he has no load data. The closest comparison is apparently Hodgdon H-335.

Nothing on Google anyplace about WC-735. Anybody know? I have the Nork M-305 and I'm after reduced load plinking with either 150 grain CMJ or 165 gr. lead.

I have 8 pounds of WC844 that they also claim is close to H335 data. I've developed loads for my LR 308 with it, and can share them with you if you like, but this is one of those "start low and work up slowly" type of deals, as with all surplus powders. - dan

I use WC735 in the 556, old WC845 was "1/2 a grain faster than 335" WC 735 states it has higher energy than WC845. I would use the starting data for H335. That being said what exactly does 1/2 a grain faster mean?...Makes me nervous. So use caution.

I know it's not the same powder, but WC735 somewhat replaced their previous WC845 offering. I was told to use h335 data less 5%. Last weekend I was shooting out of my Modified M305 a load 40.5 grains of WC845 with 150grain spitzer SP. AOL 2.743 (Mixed commercial brass). Seemed like a rather mild load. I wouln't hesitate to go up a grain. No FTF's after about 100 rounds. About a 4" group at 100. Yeah, could have been better - a 187 out of a possible 200 on a reduced 600 yd to 100 yard target that I could barely make out. Getting old and not enough range time. My excuse and.....

I think what he means when he says .5 grains faster is that if say a .223 Rem load requires:

24.5 Gn of H335 to achieve 3000 FPS then only
24.0 Gn of 735 is required.

That being said how much was the shipping and hazmat fees? I have never shipped powder before but I am interested in Surplus powder for my AR...

Andrew @ Higginson is a great guy, last time I shipped it was $17.50 hazmat, he used to throw in a pounnd of powder to offset the hazmat if you bought 21. WC735 is perfect for the AR, and Andrew has data on hand for 556.

I've found it to be very nearly identical (by weight) to H-322 in most applications, up to and including the 45-70

I've had good results with it from .223 to 30/06, although load density gets pretty thin in anything .308 case size and up. Worked great in 8x57 and 7.5x55.
5% faster then H335 works for all calibers I've tried, chrony'd all of them and it's consistant.

i load 24.1 grns of it for .223 with a 55grn fmjbt not the most accurate laod but hell its cheap and fun

When I want more powder I phone a few friends to get the order up to 20 lbs to spread out shipping and hazmet cost. There is no way to get cheaper powder in Canada than a 20 lb order from Higginson Powder. I've been dealing with Andrew and his uncle before him for decades and never had a problem. (Also very good prices on Lee tools and Bushnell optics.)
