The Saskatchewan Provincial Rifle Association (SPRA), in conjunction with PGW Defence Technologies Inc., is pleased to host the third annual Western Canada F-Class Championship on June 28- July 1, 2012 at the Northstar Range, 6 miles east of Nokomis SK.
This is a Regional event sanctioned by the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association(DCRA).
Registration: Pre–registration is strongly encouraged, as the maximum number of entries is limited to 54 competitors. There must be 32 competitors registered by May 15, 2012 for this match to proceed. In the event of cancellation all registrants will receive a full refund.
Individuals needing to cancel will receive a full refund up to May 13, 2012, otherwise 50% of the fee is forfeited for any cancellation in the remainder of the days leading up to the match.
If a maximum number of 36 shooters are registered, team competitions will be considered for each day (one match at each distance per day).
Match fee is $350.00 - this includes paid target pullers, one BBQ ticket, one match shirt, applicable prizes and awards. Entries made after May 13 will not receive a shirt.
Competitors wishing to shoot in both F-Classes will be accommodated if entry numbers permit, but must pay two full entry fees and only have one opportunity for the Grand Prize.

Eligibility: Due to insurance requirements and in recognition of the DCRA sanctioning, all competitors must be a current member of their respective Provincial Rifle Association (PRA) and the DCRA (limited, associate, service or full member). Proof of valid PRA and DCRA memberships will be required at time of registration.
Any foreign competitors who have proof of current membership in their own national rifle association will only be required to purchase a limited associate membership in the DCRA ($35).
During the competition, all Canadian competitors must possess a valid Canadian Firearms License (PAL or POL) and Non-Residents must possess either a valid Canadian Firearms License or Non-Resident Firearms Declaration (JUS909).
Governing Rules: The DCRA Rules For The Conduct Of Fullbore Rifle Competitions, Edition 15 (2009) – please see http://dcra.ca/Target_Rifle.htm under DCRA 2009 Rules F....
Classes of Rifle: Two separate rifle classes are recognized under the rules of this match, F-Open (F-O) and F-Restricted (F-TR). In general, they are:
• F -O: may be of any caliber up to and including 8mm and the overall weight
Must not exceed 10kg including all attachments (such as, but not limited to, its
sights and bipod, if any). This is shot from a bipod or pedestal rest.
• F-TR: may be .223 Remington or .308 Winchester or their commercial
metrification equivalents only. The overall weight must not exceed 8.25kg
including all attachments (such as, but not limited to, its sights and bipod).
Pedestal rests are not permitted; F-F is not recognized at this event.

Match schedules may be modified on short notice by the Match Director to address any conditions affecting the match.
Targets: Targets used in this match will be NRA LRFC target (5" X, 10" 10 ring, 20" 9 ring, 30" 8 ring, 44" 7 ring). New centers will be stapled per relay, new target per day.
Additional Match Instructions for Competitors:
• Please be advised that any rifles (and attachments) to be used by a competitor during the match must be submitted by the competitor for inspection by the Match Director or their delegate (weighed, safe trigger confirmed, fore end measured, etc.) at the time of registration. Failure to submit a rifle(s) for inspection or use of a rifle which has not been inspected will result in the competitor being deemed ineligible and/or disqualified from the match and prizes. Except by prior special arrangement with the Match Director, all competitors must register in person and have their rifle inspected on Thursday June 28, 2012.
• All matches will be fired in squadded relays of three grouped shooters per relay alternating shot for shot (Bisley Style). Relays on the first two days will be random, while the final day relays will be determined by placement (seeded). Squadding assignments will be available one half hour prior to the start of each day’s matches
• Competitors will not be required to pull and mark targets. Marking staff services are included in the match fee.
• Safety is paramount. Rifles will have actions open, magazines removed (if equipped), and an Empty Chamber Indicators (ECI) inserted into the chamber at all times except when on the firing line during the preparation period or during live firing.
• At no time is a competitor to leave the firing line with a loaded rifle. All competitors are responsible for safe rifles while on the firing line. At no time should a rifle be removed from position without the competitor having first placed an ECI in the empty chamber of their rifle and verified by the competitor’s scorekeeper and the Range Officer. The penalty for violating this rule is disqualification for both competitor and scorekeeper.
• Competitors are permitted 45 seconds per shot. At three to a mound and a 2+15 round match, this is 38.25 minutes. Each Relay will have 45 minutes to set up, shoot and retire. This will be based upon a 3 minute prep (including the move forward to the line), 2 minute target exposure (dry firing permitted) and 40 minutes to shoot and get off of the firing line. No ammunition may be loaded until the command to do so is made by the Range Officer. Time limits will be strictly enforced.
• At the beginning of each relay, competitors will be allowed a 3 minute preparation period. The ECI may be removed, but no ammunition may be loaded at this time. Anyone who fires a shot during the preparation period will be disqualified from the competition.
• Fouling shots will be permitted for a 5 minute period at the first shooting position for each shooter on the first day only. Rounds will be fired onto the targets and hits will be indicated. Shots will be alternated by the competitors on each target.
• The following relay is expected to have their gear behind the firing line 10-15 minutes in advance of their scheduled firing time, in the event that the relay may start early. Late arrivals will not be allowed to insert into the firing line and will score zero for that relay.
• Parking will be limited at all firing lines so only the firing relay and the next relay are allowed to the firing line. Once the firing relay is complete, they will head back to the clubhouse and send the next relay out to the firing line.
Range carts are encouraged.
Awards: The following awards will be made for F-O and for F-TR:
• Plaques for each Distance Aggregates (800, 900 and 1000 yds) (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
• Plaques for each Daily Aggregate (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
• Cash prize for most v-bulls
• DCRA medals for Grand Aggregate (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
• Grand Aggregate winners will have their names engraved on brass plaques attached to the Farquharson Trophy
• Winning Team will get a cash reward (TBD)
Grand Prize (draw): PGW Defense Technologies Inc. has agreed to be the major sponsor of this event and will provide a grand prize. To be eligible, the competitor must have completed all matches on all three days of in the championship, be present at the draw, be a Canadian resident, and have a valid PAL.

Other Prizes (draw): Other secondary prizes may become available and will be posted as and when known. Eligibility will be the same basis as the grand prize.
Competitor numbers will only be drawn once for prizes.
Site Amenities: The range is approximately 6 minutes east of Nokomis. Closest hotels are in Nokomis, Landigan or Watrous. Additional details to be provided shortly.
Electrical camping hookups will be made available at the range ($10 per day), however there is no water/sewer services. Latrines are available on-site.
Competitors will be required to bring/prepare meals (Hot concession open 10-4pm at clubhouse) and eat when they are not shooting. A BBQ supper on the Saturday evening is included with the $350 entry fee. Additional meal tickets may be purchased for guests, spouses, etc. ($20 per ticket). Please indicate any additional ticket requirements and shirt size on the registration form.

The other day I was at the SWF range and saw 4 guys with Coyotes in 308. Ok, they are with the SWAT team in town, and I know these guys and some have been to Nokomis before. I told them and gave them posters for the Western Canada FClass Championship match at Nokomis this year and said they should come out for it.
My newest thought… Allow all sponsors (PGW, Savage, Krieger, Nightforce, Sightron, etc., who ever donates to the door prize table) to field a team for the team events, at no entry cost to the team or the sponsor with a disclaimer that says, Door prizes are only eligible to shooters that shoot the entire individual competition.
This may also bring the sponsors, complete with display tables, etc., to the match itself. This may also make the team events more prestigious. I'm sure if there were seasoned teams at this event, it would make the team win more meaningful, winning against Team Savage, Team Kelbly, Team Berger, etc.
I know some shooters will say why should they get to shot for free, but the way I see it, the sponsors are the ones that are really drawing the crowds with their donations, not the event itself. This is very evident based on the Driller’s matches over the years. The only big showing at the Driller's was when I had a big prize table for it.
Should I offer free team events for our sponsors? The team would have to have a letter from the sponsor to show me that they are in fact the sponsor’s official "Team".
Tell me your thoughts on this idea please.

How are you for range capacity for the team shooting event?
For people who pay their $350 to enter the match, does this include shooting the team match or is that an optional thing which not everybody elects to shoot?

6 targets (maybe more soon too) and the width of the berms are the real limiting factors. Have seen 18 on the line at one time, but it was crowded. My guess, four 4 man teams on the line, per team relay.
The $350 includes the individual and team events, (plus a competitor package which includes the score cards, a bolt flag, schedule of events, a score value card indicating how the scores are marked on the target, a 2012 WCFCC shirt, supper on Saturday and a chance at the door prize table) but team shooting is an optional event and does not count towards the individual results, only to the team results. Individuals can signup and form teams for the daily team event on Thursday, the weigh-in and registration day.
I'm just trying to make team shooting more available and popular and to possible help our sponsors (more visible) and possibly help Team Canada with some much needed range time Dan.

I like your general idea, of both trying to engage better with the sponsors and also to add to the shooting of the match. I am doubtful that you will see much if any takeup on your nice offer though (but don't let my skepticism discourage you, I would love to be wrong here) - the reason I say this is that there seems to be a great reluctance by professional shooters to "expose" themselves to a competition, in which they or others might think that they'll lose face unless they come in first place. I wish I knew a solution to this, it really would be nice to have more shooters.
It's unfortunate that you won't be able to fire the entirety of the team match on a single relay. That is something that as a match organizer I would try to avoid if at all possible (though maybe it isn't), since different relays can have different conditions. Here's a suggestion for you - instead of making teams of 4, why not make bigger teams, like teams of 6 or even 8 shooters, all firing on a single target? I know that it is conventional to have only 4 or 5 shooters per target, but that is largely from TR; F-Class can often shoot at a much higher sustained tempo. I think it might be an improvement for a larger number of people to fire on a single target, whether that would involve a single non-shooting coach coaching all 8 shooters, or perhaps two shooters might coach over the 8-shooter interval.

I originally thought bigger teams would be the way to go too but the team leaders (Billy Squared) said it was easier to do with 4 man teams, go figure eh...
