WCFCC Nokomis 2012 - June 28- July 1, 2012

After two days, FTR 1-2 are separated by 4 points, F-O by 1. Hot conditions, blue skies and 26C this morning after a thunderstorm last night. Tomorrow is warmer. Over 40 competitors in this match.

Team Corelane Sports is 2 points up on Team PGW, who gained a bunch of ground today.
 
What a great match. Weather just happened to be perfect and DIABOLICAL.

Great learning experience, with lots of talented shoters. Friendly bunch too.

A big thumbs up goes to Kodiak and all that helped him put on a smooth and FAST match.

Weather started great and got worse so every effort was made to let all shooters see decent air. That was greatly appreciated.

For those wanting to experience BIG AIR and flags that actually offer some help, this is it.

Just be prepared to get a whole lot of whoop A$$ when the thermals start popping.

Vertical??? WHAT VERTICAL???????

I am sure the results will get posted soon enough when others get back home and rested.

Yes they were that strong, and 17min. l/wind got you on paper...........some times....
What a hoot this shoot was, lots of good people and good times, thanks again Kieth , good job. John

We managed to get 21 shooters on our line, ok... 18 on the gravel and 3 off to the right (thanks to the extra target in the air now - we now have 7 targets at Nokomis), it was tight but better than an extra relay...

Strong enough to gust big bullets right off the target. As I said earlier, 7mm 180gr Hybrid drilling out the 10/Xring, then going just inside the 7 ring - straight up.

That ring is 44" across. Do the math on that....

Keeps you on your toes and you learn real fast how to dial on and off, dive to compensate.

The saying "world hates a coward" really is true at Nokomis.

I wished there were more ranges like this. I learnt more in 1 weekend then I have in years. Those wind charts and flag reading all start to make sense. Mirage and watching your competitors. Studying the clouds and any signal that fortels impending DOOM.

Shoot well here and you SHOOT WELL.

Not a range you are going to shade a ring and slide them in for a good score. At least, not for long.

Those top 5 shooters peddeled real fast and got it right a whole lot more then the rest of us.

Outstanding shooting for sure.

Next year should be Winnipeg, MB. Apparently, it gets breezy there too:D

For those newbies reading this and getting intimidated, DONT. You will not find a nicer bunch of helpful shooters. We had first timers to top Cdn shooters.

ALL had a great time and help was never further away then a raised hand and a request.

If in the SK area, give Kodiak a shout. The only warning is that after meeting and shooting with him, be prepared to be hooked on a most enjoyable, often frustrating but never boring sport.

Another big thumbs up to the Nokomis crew. What a great time.

If in any other province, there are shooters ready to lend a helping hand. Just post your requests.

As the very lucky winner of the PGW barrel and action I want to thank the Nokomis bunch for all their hard work. It was a great shoot. I had a lot of fun and picked up some new skills. Keith, you keep going to the very end still smiling the same as the first day. You must be exhausted.

For my level, shoot went pretty well until the last day when the my score dived and I found the scope loose. Not sure I like the new name "Loose Screw".

Great job and I will do my best to contribute to the Manitoba match next year!
 
The only 2 223's there were in the top 10 (5th and 8th). See my thoughts in the other 223/90gr VLD mega post.

Overall, the combo is accurate but not forgiving. With the air we shot in, any type of vertical cost me at least 1 more point vs the 308. Most deduced there was vertical from the swearing beside them. I never saw a change in the air or flags.

Just BAM, off you go.... and I mean EVERYONE got hit many times to varying degrees.

I will begin R&D on a 308 as soon as my next batch of barrels arrive.

The 223/90 still makes a superb shorter distance choice or when more stable air is offered.

that didn't happen for us in Nokomis. Not a bad thing and a great learning experience

that is nice to hear there were 3 of us. bumpy air happened at all ranges.

It was not better or worse at any of the 3 ranges for me. Just never saw the condition that sent me... bye, bye.

The air temps just got way hotter by the time we got to 1000 so it was bumpier. I bet if we reversed the shooting distance, the results would have been reversed.

Now that is an interesting idea for a match.

Congrats to my good buddy Marc for taking the F-O and to Bill for winning F-TR.

Those who were able to keep their poop in a group this weekend did very well in the tricky conditions (I, unfortunately, was unable to and had a few train wrecks along the way).


Thanks to Keith, the RO's, target marker crew (best I have ever seen) and the rest of the "behind the scenes" staff, you did an incredible job and put on a great shoot.
