Awhile back someone suggested using WD40 Specialist dry lube in place of hard to find One Shot. I picked up a can awhile ago and finally tried it out. I usually only use One Shot on pistol brass anyway.

Worked great on a bucket of 45ACP and a bucket of 357 Magnum brass. But that's pistol brass and rifle brass obviously needs more lubrication to deal with the bottleneck shape. So I tried it on a dozen 308 brass and it worked great. But I've used all sorts of lubes and most slippery stuff works pretty good. It's really the cost, the delivery method and the clean up afterwards that makes the differences in lubes.

I never remove the One Shot from pistol brass and I don't see any need to remove the WD40 form the pistol brass either. I don't know if I am going to remove it from the 308 brass yet either as it doesn't feel too gummy right now but I'll check again at one point.

Anyway, that's my findings. Please don't use it and get a stuck 223 case and blame me!

I can't remember who suggested using it and I couldn't find the thread but I want to thank them as One Shot seems unobtanium in Canada these days. At $15 a can I will probably stick with lanolin/alcohol for rifle lube but I'll use this stuff for pistol lube once the OS runs out.

Hmmm, thats good news.

It is relatively easy to source and the price is reasonable. I have a stash of One Shot but will keep this in mind.

I made a batch of lanolin/isopropyl spray lube over the winter but haven’t had the opportunity to to try it out. For the price it’ll be my got to for a spray type case lube if it works as well as it’s supposed to, I have a can of the One Shot but I can’t stand the smell of it. Have to use it outside, it smells like shít.

Good to know, thanks for the report. If I ever run out of One Shot, I have a $hit ton, I'll definitely give it a try. I think DaveMachine was one of the first members here to try it as a case lube substitute.

Lanolin works great and I do the same with One Shot- take it outside because it smells horrible.

curious,,why do you lube pistol brass, modern dies dont need it,
I know on my load master lubing the pistol brass DRAMITCALLY reduces the force of the stroke, I'll never go back.
I have a good supply of one shot but ill be keeping this post in mind, might just pick up a can regardless for when I forget.

funny,on a Dillon it makes hardly a difference, other than the greasy #### feeling ammo,

Pistol brass doesn't need it in that the brass won't get stuck with carbide dies but it makes everything go much smoother. It's probably not a big deal with small amounts of brass but when you start getting into more volume it does.

Is it the language laws that are causing this shortage ?

I think I read that this is the issue with One Shot.

The two issues that seem to be prevalent when products are cancelled are lack of French labelling and products that have content that has became banned in Canada.
