We need to support Maxime Bernier

There is next to 0 appetite in Quebec for libertarian government. In about 65 out of 75 ridings, it disqualifies you before the race even begins. Thinking that Bernier can "deliver" quebec in these conditions is laughable.

In Quebec, Bernier is known for the Joe Louis incident, the HA girlfriend, and the secret document fiasco. Politically, he's a walking catch-22: either he promotes a right-wing libertarian platform with which nobody agrees in Quebec (except for a few ridings in the south and around Quebec city) or he keeps it low profile and stays known for the aforementionned fiascos. If you don't believe a liberal campaign wouldn't bring back the videos of this guy insulting members of our armed forces with his f... joe louis I don't think you've been following the news the last 10 years. The only road to victory is a massive amount of ridings in ontario.

The reason I believe this guy will never win is because I know him personnaly. His dad was a smart guy.

Anyway, if I was at the pcc, I'd be preparing the 2023 elections, not the 2019. By then Trudeau will be a washed-up has-been, voters will be tired of his whole government, the NPD will be taking votes from them; it'll be the right time to beat them. But unless someone really drops the ball in the next 2 years, it'll be really hard for the conservative to win the election. And it won't happen with quebec ridings, which I believe Bernier can't deliver anyway.

I agree that the appetite for Bernier's libertarianism in Quebec is uncertain. And I agree that Trudeau is still most likely to easily win the next election barring some monumental stupidity on his part, and no Conservative candidate can change that. The question for me is who could do better than Bernier overall, both in Quebec and across Canada. Right now I don't think there is that person.

Also, I want libertarianism to permeate the CPC's culture into the future, in a way that it used to before Harper crushed it out in 2009. And what I don't think anyone who actually cares about the future wants is a red tory conservative candidate that will turn the party back into the PCs.

As the world seems to be heading into an ever more powerful state exerting ever more control over our lives, and I want a libertarian voice to stand against it.

Bernier is going to open a lot of conversations that have not been opened until now. Some will no doubt get slammed down, but some may not. Conversations and new ideas are always a good thing.

Ah yes...lets just submit to another 4yrs of Liberal reign without putting a fight at all! Maybe in 2023 we can focus our efforts on sling-shot lobbying...

C'mon people, we have an opportunity to get behind something great here! Gun owners in Canada we have NEVER had so much momentum and such a loud voice in Ottawa! This is the opportunity we have all been crying for since bill c-68 was introduced in 1995. Gun owners need to stop being such a bunch of cucks and rally behind this guy!

Like many others on this thread I have joined the party based on Maxime's stated platform, as well as contributed directly to his campaign.

This is a refreshing change of policy in Ottawa and I am more than willing to take a chance on this man!! Tell your friends and get this information out. I know many co-workers that are hunters/gunners who don't participate on this site. I have copied the links and sent them out via e-mail to these people.

Let's do our part and stand up for our sport. What are your gun right's worth??

I can't go to a Blue Jay game and buy a beer for $15!!!...and I can have a say in who will be the leader of the CPC for that??? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I am CPC, but Bernier has too much baggage and does not have my trust, if he lets the little guy rule his brain how can he rule a Country!

So the gun rights stuff is nice, but it won't be the leader that defines those. We all know how much leader promises are worth and it will be the party convention where policy is developed and declared. What we need is someone to appeal to the wailing millenials that Justin wooed with legal drugs - and someone that has the charisma to challenge the hot kid with nice hair.

Maxime would be a great PM - but only O'Leary has a chance to win this.

Rob!

Unless someone has convincing evidence that he would take Quebec ridings, then I can't see him winning the election.
Quebecers love extensive, tax funded services/benefits administered by a big bureaucracy. Lots of rules. MB has strong libertarian leanings. And then there're the scandals.
Ya, I don't see it...

The game plan is to magically morph o'leary into a pro gunner after he's elected.
The exact methodology of accomplishing this hasn't as yet been revealed.
I'm guessing a voodo spell.
Maybe it will work on justin? ;)

Well, the election is still two years away so there aren't any guarantees. But looking at the leadership candidate slate I don't see how anyone but Bernier would have the best chance of winning Quebec AND other parts of Canada. Just look that this graph ... those big purple swaths - that's Bernier.

Bernier is within an arms reach, with the entire firearms community behind him he can easily defeat O'Leary. O'Leary's initial support is dwindling, people are realizing he's not a real conservative.

Those numbers will change with his stance on firearms.....and O'Leary in the race.....now, we need some candidates to leave the race and see a clearer view

Looking at those numbers, if Leitch and Blaney pulled out, and both supported Bernier, it would look pretty good for Bernier fans. I would sure like to see what kind of money O'leary is pulling in.

Two of the better candidates, Scheer and O'Toole, aren't even in the running. Bernier has little chance of winning against Trudeau. Especially since his girlfriend fiasco. Even if Conservatives would like to pretend it didn't happen. The media will light it up as soon as the election would be called.

I think if the Canadian people can elect a guy who is completely unqualified for the job, it won't be too hard to elect a guy who is very qualified but was banging a biker chick. Trudeau is scripting Conservative smear campaigns every day, so I can't imagine it will be hard to overcome a bit of flak for a mistake that was made a decade ago.

This is before O'Leary was in the race

This is his latest FB post....

Yesterday I announced a full firearms policy for Canada.

It would make many AR-15s non-restricted.

It would remove all magazine capacity limits.

It would take the power to reclassify firearms out of the RCMP and Cabinet, and make it so that all changes to classification require a change to the law, through the House of Commons and Senate.

And the media?

Not a chirp.

No news is good news.

It means that firearms are becoming less taboo in Canada.

And that’s a good thing.

Because we need rational discussion, not fiery emotions.

We need laws that make sense, and that are based on measurement and results.

Not laws based on fear.

It seems like the undeserved stigma against gun owners in Canada might finally be fading.

But freedom-lovers like myself can’t give up the fight.

Sincerely,

Maxime Bernier

One thing that still needs to be done is to decriminalize the ownership, storage, and transport of firearms by licensed gun owners.
Don't see this anywhere in his platform. These sorts of minor violations should be fined and not involve criminal charges.
