we really need some rifles in 5.45x39

If only we had a vz 5.45 and Canammo you guys would get ALOT of my money!!!

Maybe we can get someone to call Mr. Wolverine (*cough* Grumpy if you're reading this: Hint hint. *cough*) while he is in the Czech Republic and see if he can ask CZ what they can do? The main reason 858's sell well is because it's cool as ####, can fire cheap ammo and isn't an SKS. The same would probably be true of a VZ type rifle in 5.45.

A Vz58 in 5.45 would be like Vz58's in 5.56 right now... a niche market.

Most guys still prefer the 7.62x39 version, simply because spare parts would be easier to get, plus all the "gremlins" have been worked out in those already. Sponsors/importers probably realize it...

The ATF is saying 7N6 is currently banned from import into the USA.
This is for the AK74 rifle....
But discuss freely,
FLHTCUI

It's banned because the surplus is FMJ with a metal core, which wouldn't be a problem in a rifle, but in a pistol it magically becomes an AP round (according to the ATF), and AP pistol ammo is verbotten in the US.

The problem stems from the AK-74 "pistols" available in the US.

The ammo got thrown under the bureaucratic bus in the US, because even down there, it's a fairly niche round (and the AK-74 is a niche platform), and there wasn't enough of a critical mass of shooters who were affected for the gun rights groups down there to get much traction.

A couple of the hardcore YouTube gunners raised a bit of a stink, but that was about it. There were so many gun rights fights going on at the time this got pushed through by the ATF, this one ended up being a fight the gun rights people didn't take on out of mere expediency.
