"We will take you home"

This is a post that I put up many years ago. I got many responses sending thanks to my friend. I think it is worth posting again.

A good friend and colleague in the CF came to visit me last night, he has just come back from Kosovo. We sat for a while and I let him talk about the places he has been, some of the people that he has met and the some of the things that he has seen.

Some of the stories that he relived had us both close to tears.

Back home, there is heated debate as to why our service men and women are ‘over there’ on these costly peace keeping missions.

My friend, stationed in the back of beyond asked himself these same questions.

He found the answers in the eyes of the people that he came to help and protect.
He found the answers in the eyes of frightened children.

Be proud of Canada and her long and honourable military history. Here at home safe and sound, it is easy to forget the cost of our peaceful existence. For some, that cost was life itself.

This November 11[SUP]th[/SUP] think of the men and women who have served both past and present. They will be thinking about us.

Six months later he returned to Yugoslavia for a second tour. He never came home again.

Thank you to all those who served, and especially those who died.

RIP Harry
