Weak hand shooting.

I shoot weak handed in the "gangsta" style. Sights are almost useless when the gun is tilted 45-90 degrees, depending on the distance and the angle. I haven't given thought to left eye/left hand, but I think you're right. That's what happens instinctively.

I'm... not... quite.... so .... sure......

So I've had occasion to need to lay down on my side and shoot during some of the local competitions when that was the starting position. I found that if I used the sights on my side like this and "indexed" on the target from the 90° side of the target ( so the sight picture was "normal" but both the picture and me laying on our sides) that the kick "upwards" to the side actually resulted in good consistent hits.

And stupid though it is I know for giggles at times I've done the "gangsta" thing (without crotch grab :d..... although maybe that's part of the whole schtick? Didn't need the distraction though..... ) where I held the gun's sight picture indexed in from the side and again got a REASONABLE number of hits. Not as consistent as when both the gun and I are laying on our sides but decent enough and always serves to make the point about how silly it really is.

So.... I dunno! ? ! ? !....

I'm a righty but my right eye has a slight astigmatism. So other than rifle, where I gave up trying to learn left handing them, I aim both strong and weak hand with my left eye. Just takes a slight head rotation to line things up when shooting right handed and no rotation for "weak" handed left hand shooting for me.

Because I compete a fair amount to increase my personal fun factor I'm fairly often told I need to shoot weak hand. I found that during some drills where timing isn't an issue that because I focused so strongly on the basics, mirrored of course, that more often than not I actually shoot BETTER with my weak hand than my strong.... Go figure....

But it's that focus on the proper basics that does the trick.... and reminds me that I do decently enough when I remember to stop being sloppy when shooting with my strong hand that I can do better. And there's no doubt that if I focus on doing all the proper basics that suddenly my shooting sharpens up. As in both faster AND more accurate.... Again, go figure? I'm sure there's a moral in that story somewhere... .:d

Oh yes, I worked at this continually for three years or more. It is a fascinating endeavour if the bug hits you good! In my opinion, you have to give each and every method, that you are on the fence with, a good try as we are all built a little different. I found that some Doors that opened slowly, opened to some big advancements. Plus, the sub dominant hand has to develop coordination and strength.
Your experience with right hand right eye, left hand left eye was mine as well. Switch eye dominance, as stated by a previous CGN'r, for some folks is acquirable. It took me about a good year and some to do on demand.
Fun subject. I'll quit blabbering.
