Weak rifling on brand new Norinco JW25A

Hi all, I'm thinking about buying another new JW25A after the first one I got has rifling so light it looks almost shot-out despite being brand new.

Rather than complaining about a $230 rifle and trying to send it back, I'm considering just buying another one and taking my previous one to a gun store for $50 or whatever they'll offer me.

Do all of them have light or weak rifling and I'm just wasting my time?

For comparison sake, my 50 year old Cooey has much better rifling than this brand new rifle and that's no exaggeration. I figure there's been about 5,000 rounds through the Cooey.

What are your thoughts JW25A owners?
 
Do they still sell those rifles ? I was going to buy one some time ago ,but can`t find them anymore.

I too would be interested in other owners thoughts.

I have one and waiting to take it to the range. Just had other stuff to shoot. The front sights were off (blade was tilted) replaced it which required some filing and will have to file that blade down a bit. I would gladly sell mine for a fair price. I would recommend buying a different rifle. What attracted me to the JW25A was that is was some what of a K98 clone and 8mm is expensive to shoot. From what I have seen in hindsight I would have held out to get a CZ or should have gone with a zastava.

Rifling in mine is solid
Cleaning them like a mosin requires extra care, metal is not of the same quality as they arrive coated in oil
My guess like all norinco ' is thst it's a rive hit a riven miss rifle.
 
I had one a few years ago, but never warmed up to it and only shot a few rounds. Some guys love them, some think they are OK at best. Like a lot of Norinco rifles I guess, but should not be hard to pass on if you don't like it, guys always willing to buy!
 
My understanding us the only difference between the Norinco JW 15 and JW 25 is the military looking stock ,other than that it's a knockoff of the BRNO. I have both the BRNO and the Norinco JW15 in the 26'' and backpacker 13' barrel .The JW 15 while not as finely finished is just as functional and accurate as the BRNO. I would be surprised to find the JW 25 any diferent ,but as usual, Norinco quality control can be hit and miss.Norinco's are 'shooters' not 'collectors' and are very good value for the money at a fraction of the cost of the original
 
Not sure where you got it, but I got mine from Canada Ammo and they are super solid when it comes to issues with their guns. If you got it there contact them and they will take care of you.
Mine had the rear sight a bit crooked. Returned it and they sent me a new one. I took a bunch of guns out one day plinking at a gong around 85m. Not many of the guns were hitting that day (Scoped and unscoped Savages, .22 and .17hmr, plus a few others). I took out the new JW25 and wasn't expecting much with the open sights, and the earlier results. The gun blew my min, it was hitting almost 8/10 shots.

Take it out, shoot it and see. I was pleasantly surprised. It's accuracy was close to my CZ 455FS.
 
I got mine from Marstar. Will not buy there again for anything mine looks like something fell on the box at the site blade as I had to reshape the metal so the blade would sit flush. They sent me a new blade as the first one was warped but still I should have sent the whole rifle back. Only issue was I missed the issue until after I cleaned the oil off. Second issue I had with them was recently and didn't bother contacting cause I can expect the response. I ordered surplus 7.62 x 54R ammo with there winter sale the crate I recieved was exposed to moisture at some point and the wood was approaching molding in the corner and though I have not opened the crate fully the flap I was able to lift in the wood showed a can with whitish corrosion on the top. I am hoping the ammo below is fine. Left it in front of the dehumidifier and the moisture issue is under control but hopefully no damage is done where it counts.
 
Mine was from Marstar too, but I don't blame them for the rifling issue because the cosmoline would have covered it up. I'm also noticing pits that are catching my patches and leaving fuzzballs. They look like tiny casting voids.

I'll contact Marstar and see what they think.

The whole rifle is heavier if you can call that an advantage...the one I had sucked.
The wood was actually nicely done, the metal all looked like it was shaped with a file. Everything was rough or sharp, steaming pile of dog ####.
I do have 2 JW-15's, the stubby one and the long one, both are "Bell Lifestyles" imports and way better finished.
 
Interesting,I have the same two JW 15s and while not as finely finished as my BRNO,they are quite acceptable and shoot just as well.The 'backpacker' is ideal as a grouse gun,nice and compact. I had wondered about buying a JW25 but couldn't see any real advantage.Fortionately I haven't had any bad experiances with Norinco,although quality control is said to be hit and miss,possably due to diferent factories
 
I had two JW25A rifles. My wife bought me one and I had ordered another one later. They both shot well. I just sent the other one to a fellow CGNer. I am going to put a cheapo scope on mine and use it at our indoor range. They are a beefy little rifle.

It's okay boys, I have 6 CZ 455's, so no need to harp on the "buy quality once, cry once" blather. I treasure my JW25A as a gift from my wife. I also had a JW15 sporter, but it was stolen. It shot just fine, too.
