'Weapons' with barrel shrouds should be banned?

Ahhh, it would be like banning cosmetic spoilers on japanese import cars to stop speeding deaths. Unfortunately they probably think that's a great idea too.
 
This simply points out the true level of understanding that politicians have on any particular subject they are speaking on. "I don't know what it is, but, lets ban / confiscate / destroy / render inoperable / arrest anyone found with .. it...."

Isn't a barrel shroud just the covering of the barrel so you have a place to grip the weapon?

Wikipedia says -

A barrel shroud is a covering for the barrel of a firearm that protects the user of the weapon from heat generated by the barrel. Slides or extensions of the stock that do not fully encircle the barrel are generally not considered shrouds."

So, isn't it just common on any gas operated rifle so that the often more fragile gas mechanism isn't exposed and you have a place to grip so your hand doesn't get burned?

What does it have to do with a weapon being more dangerous or not.

Funny funny stuff. It's purely about aesthetics ie. banning bayonet lugs - someone with a bayonet on their rifle is twice as dangerous!

They just don't grasp the fact that any semi-automatic assault rifle is no more deadly than something nice and hunter friendly looking like a Mini-14.


It's all about "we tried to ban a lot of the guns the criminals and gangs were using". Ie. if they banned all the guns found to be most common in gangland shootings, those responsible for them would just say "damn we're screwed now". Convert to another weapon? No way, they've used Glocks for years, to bring everyone in the gang up to speed on the mechanics of another pistol would take so long there would be approximately a 5 year period before the violence could start again!

Wouldn't make a difference anyway. Criminals would still use the same weapons they had in large supply. It's not like they go around buying from gun stores; if they buy weapons on the black market, what does it matter whether they're legal or illegal?
 
Hmm...I guess grandpa's Enfield is going to be banned....and just when I was aching for that CZ Mauser with a full stock...550FS.

What a flaming idiot...for christ sake, I reckon she might think my foreskin should be banned because it might just be a barrel shroud too.
