Just curious if a person can wear their normal winter gear, but wear one of those blaze orange vests for deer hunting in Saskatchewan? I don't ask for me, because I've already bagged my deer.

I don't think it's legal, but prove me wrong. What say you??

I know nothing about Saskatchewan hunting laws, but I'd be shocked if it were illegal. Different, but not illegal. Deer hunters tend to prefer to be invisible, rather than be seen. But, some folks are more concerned about being mistaken for a deer than seen by one.

If ya check the regs, I think you'll find it illegal, but check for sure.

Not the fact about the normal winter gear, but I don't think a vest will give you the amount of color required, I think it has to be an entire tophalf?jacket and hat of hunter colors. I very well could be wrong. I KNOW that a jacket and hat does pass the bill in hunter orange.

It depends on how big you are as the regs state that you need so many square inches of colour. If you are a big guy then you could get away with a vest.

Holy crap, am I out to lunch! You guys HAVE to wear blaze?!? That's so different from 10 feet across the border, I thought you were asking if it is legal to wear blaze at all. That's why it seemed like a strange question.

I didn't think anyone would prove me wrong. The reason I asked, is for the girlfriend. It occurs to her 3 weeks into the season that she wants to try for a deer. All she could find on her budget was a blaze vest.

I have a white two piece jumper(ugly for sure) and I thought she wanted to wear the vest on top of it. Well..................

Convincing this gal to wear this white jumper, I might as well herd cats or something.

Rant over.

They give a list of acceptable colors in the regs. A white coat and red hat is legal. Most anyone can scratch that up.

full upper torso (jacket w/ sleeves) of Blaze orange, bright red, yellow or white (or combination thereof) with yellow orange or red hat (not white). Orange cammo also not acceptable.

Yup!

Can't wear Orange Camo (or couldn't), but once the snow is on the ground, all white with a red hat is quite OK!
BTDT. Used to use white coveralls from work, over my warm clothes, and a blaze orange toque over the white balaclava that kept my face warm.

Perfectly legal.

Kinda screwy, really.

I was pretty happy to go somewhere where I was able to hunt in whatever I wanted to wear.

Cheers

Just buy something light to throw on over your gear. I use a Northern Ourfitters anorak pullover windbreaker. Best piece of kit out there, bar none. Blocks the wind so well all I wore under it last fall for Sask Whitetails was a fleece and a down vest.

Cat's Ass!

I personally cannot see why anyone would wear white when hunting Whitetails. Sounds like a good way to get shot by some over exuberant hunter who takes you for a tail. In the bush orange is very visable so I personally would wear nothing else.

More like an idiot that should not be allowed to possess firearms. If you aren't 100% sure of the target, don't shoot. If you shoot at something that you take to be a tail, but it is really a person that you kill, you deserve to be convicted of manslaughter.
