Hi 👋 anyone built one of these yet ? Just ask in 🤪😀this is just a CONVERSATION PIECE - I have no interest in building one 😀

Overview

The "7mm x 6.5 RPM Weatherby" refers to a popular wildcat cartridge, essentially necking up the modern, beltless 6.5 WBY RPM (Rebated Precision Magnum) to shoot 7mm bullets, offering magnum velocities (like 7mm PRC/Rem Mag) from a case that uses standard '06 bolt faces, providing great performance for hunting medium-to-large game with excellent accuracy potential in Weatherby Mark V rifles.

Sounds a lot like a 280 Rem AI to me. Interesting though. - dan

There’s a host of Cals that will closely mimic this without the expense. Just seems like another proprietary Weatherby Cal that really is not needed by the masses, but hoping said masses who’ve bought into the “speed kills” mentality will flock to..

Sounds like about the strongest 7mm you could get out of a standard action. Us backpack hunters would really appreciate that. As we already tend to appreciate the 280ai and other cartridges that give you lots of power for the rifle and ammo weight.

I’m interested. Hell I’m interested in the 338rpm.

Just worried that one day those rpm cases will be unobtainium. Also….do they cycle/chamber good?

It was Weatherby's solution to fit the larger cartridge in their smaller, lighter 6 lug action giving magnum performance in a light mountain, backcountry rifle.

The masses are not interested in velocity, they pursue fast twist rifling, accompanied with the longer heavier bullets.............BTW, speed does really kill! ;)

The 7x 6.5 RPM holds about 7 more grs of powder over a 280 AI and just a bit more at 3 grs then a 7 REM Mag . 👍
So yes performance is going to be a bit better then the 280AI and pretty Equal to the 7 RM and or 7 PRC but on a std bolt face .
Make a great cartridge in the MK 5 6 lug action with a 22-24 “ 1-8.5 twist barrel with the Barnes 152 LRX bullet I think in the 3200 PLUS ! fps range . 🤔

What you say Chuck 🤷‍♂️😜

If it was all about saving money, we'd all be shooting Stevens 200s in 30/06, thanks SuperCub for the quote

I love the idea of the RPMs - magnum performance on a 30-06 bolt face is very cool. A 7rpm and a 338rpm would do a great job covering north American big game hunting. But I can only assume the brass costs are stupid.

7rpm would be cool, but it's not cool enough to spend the money on getting there for me. Especially when 7BC fills the exact same niche.

I’m not at a computer so I can’t look but I’m curious how close to the 7mm BC this would be? Minus of course the special cases and higher pressures!

I’m pretty sure it’s a 25 rpm. I seen a photo last week of a new 25 cal cartridge and it looked exactly like a 25rpm

Man I hope so. The RPM line could really use a bump, I love the idea of it but it didn't exactly make a big splash.
Im hoping for a 25 RPM, with fast twist barrels. I was going to build a fast twist 25 of some sort, whether that be a SAUM, PRC etc so if they make one from the factory I'd be ALL over that.

They'd be smart to be the first ones to release a factory fast twist 25 with some speed (to actually beat a 25 Creed).
Even if they did a 1:8 257 wby mag I think it would go over real well.
