Weatherby 7-6.5 RPM cartridge

I’m going to wait and see what this new cartridge is. Was going to place an order for a 7.5twist .257 barrel this week. My plan is to build a 257 weatherby for launching the new high B.C. bullets.
I was planning a 2506. Been waiting for the 25 market to kick up with new bullets. I already have the brass and dies

It feels like weatherby learned almost nothing from the win mag release. By starting with a 6.5 and 338. Instead of starting with the more popular 30 or 7mm bores.

Quietly looking for a used 338rpm thou. They are niche solution to an excellent bear rifle.
I spoke to Adam Weatherby at length about introducing the 7-RPM a few years back after the 6.5 RPM was introduced and the reasoning at that time was lack of available components ( Covid Crunch) otherwise they would have.

Soooooo....."the 25 RPM is capable of pushing a 133 gr Berger at 3,000 feet per second"
Is that really news?
Several cartridges have been there and done that faster.
Not sure a smaller bolt face is worth the fuss, either?
Just sayin...

With nearly the same case capacity as a 257wby, should be able to do a lot better than 3000fps.

16" barrel maybe? 🤔
257 Bee is a long action cartridge. So for those weight conscious folks that could mean something... maybe.
Still lots of short action cases to do the same or better.
If a fella really needs an excuse to do something, then this as almost as good as any?

RPM line is long action?...

What other factory cartridges can do what this one can? The Creedmoor certainly can't touch it on velocity and none of the bigger cases use fast twist from the factory?

Sure you could make a custom 25wsm or something, but not everyone wants to build a custom gun or reload ammo.

Thanks, ya I didn't think they shortened it. 🤭
Shortened yes, but still LA.

By slightly shortening and modifying our proven 6.5 and 338 RPM case, we optimized the overall length for high BC, heavy for caliber bullets.

From my perspective it's a 257bee on a 30-06 bolt face, so you can fit 1 more in the mag and don't have to deal with a belt (I know, belts dont make a difference with a bottleneck cartridge).

Personally i don't see this one taking off. Being a long action 30-06-esque case screams hunting rifle to me, and I can't imagine many hunters looking for this kind of long range performance is gonna pick a little 25cal when there's so many 6.5s, 7s, and 30s that'll kill stuff at least as good.

I understand that Weatherby is making this cartridge as an addition to the slim and lovely 6 lug action. More chambering and rifles in the rpm family hopefully mean brass and ammo will be available for longer keeping these rifles shooting.

But

Another company should quickly release 2 new cartridge based lengthened .284 case in .277 and .30 calibers. Then partner with a regional gunsmiths like to rechamber 270win and 30-06 to essentially 270 and 30rpm. Could be a successful way to get more range and velocity out of existing rifles. Do it at cost in order to sell brass and ammo. I must be possible to design a reamer to for instance clean up a 25-06 camber to 25rpm while the barrel and receiver are still attached. Why not others?

Didn't say factory...
As stated... especially now that it's known to be a long action....If a feller really needs an excuse...

What does it do that the 257 Bee doesn't do already?

It just seems like another cartridge release for the sake of another cartridge release with nothing more to offer than anything else already available.

Only if you already own a 257bee.

Besides, Weatherby sells rifles and ammo, not barrels.
So if a 257 Bee was already owned, a 25 RPM would fill what gap, exactly? And that gap couldn't be filled by a barrel?
Weatherby is sure selling somthin here... and it isn't rifles and ammo.
What is the point? And don't say it's the business. That's the easy part.
Bee guys are loyal bunch. The majority of their business is to previous customers.

Not much - but that's a big if.

Did 6.8 western need to exist when 270wsm already did? Or 338rpm vs 338winmag? 243win vs 6cm? New cartridges sell rifles. It doesn't matter if there is a different route to get there already available, especially if that different route requires a custom barrel

These velocities they published with the 25 RPM were also in a 22” barrel keep in mind.

Also guys who hand load will be able to push it harder no different than any factory caliber.

I have a 257 wby right now. I love it. I run a 115 Berger at 3430fps. It’s a laser. Am I going to sell it and buy a 25 RPM? No cause I love the rifle itself and it holds some value to me but will I be adding a 25 RPM to my safe? Absolutely I will be. The rifle will be $300 more than re-barreling my 257 and I have another one in the safe. Win win.
