Weatherby 7-6.5 RPM cartridge

I’m pretty sure it’s a 25 rpm. I seen a photo last week of a new 25 cal cartridge and it looked exactly like a 25rpm

I’m thinking your probably right Bare, I thought for sure they would have introduced the 7 RPM by now but being the .25” are vogue these days it makes more sense……
I also think they will introduce the 30 RPM at some point as the .308 & 30-06 are old and boring but work, so the 30 RPM could be a great option.

The only part of me that thinks it will be a 7mm is because they are releasing on the 7th. I mean they have to beat ShotShow so the 25th of January doesn’t work the best either.

No matter what it is I’m curious! I like the RPM line but haven’t built one just yet. Not sure this would change that but it might. Currently thinking a 6mm but a .25cal might be just as fun!

It feels like weatherby learned almost nothing from the win mag release. By starting with a 6.5 and 338. Instead of starting with the more popular 30 or 7mm bores.

Quietly looking for a used 338rpm thou. They are niche solution to a excellent bear rifle.

Between 6.5cm and 6.5prc I bet twice as many 6.5s have sold than 7s in the last decade. And 30cal has so many options already that its really hard to carve out market share.

I like 6mm and 7mm personally, so I'm all for a 7RPM. I think 280ai is one of the best hunting cartridges out there, and the RPM has all the upside of a 280ai with a bit more juice.

I also agree on the 338rpm. The 225gr accubond factory load claims 2100ft/lb energy at 500yds! From a 30-06 sized action/boltface that's crazy. That's with a 24"barrel, but even with a 18" barrel you're over 2000 ft/lb to like 425yds.

YUP ! BUT not there most popular cartridge either !
Nothing with a Weatherby head stamp is all that popular. Those who own them love them, but it's not like a Weatherby cartridge has ever been the most common option for a caliber.

Interestingly, the one place Weatherby really does stand out amongst the crowd is the 257bee... maybe not the most common/ popular 25cal but the number of popular 25cal cartridges was pretty limited compared to 7 and 30cal. (I say was because it looks like we're getting a new wave of 25cals thanks to the new high BC bullets and who knows how that'll shake things up over the next few years)

Im betting the new cartridge will be a 25 cal. New life on Roy's darling with a fast twist and heavier bullets.
However im personally hoping for a 35 or 36 or 40 cal myself. Wby doesn't offer those yet that I know of

9.3RPM would be sweet!

257bee performance without the downsides of magnum dimensions. Yeah, that's what I expect too.

I ran a 300Wby until just this past summer.

Nothing spectacular, just a plain VG2 dumped into a B&C and added Accubrake by the orig owner.

MOA accuracy with OTC Hornady 200gr ELDX’s with tolerable recoil (30-06’ish)nwas a pleasant surprise. Ya it definitely had the thump behind it for the range I wanted, but certainly not cheap to feed (nothing is these days) with factory ammo. This led to it being sold off (jury is still out on that decision).

If I were to go the .300 route again, I’d probably end up with a straight 300WM, at least the difference in ammo cost would warrant it sticking around a bit longer than the 300Wby did. IMG_8822.jpeg

Yup, those heavy bullets have me rethinking building another 257 STW. - dan
