Would this be as accurate as the mark V accumark?
MARK V ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT · Magnum 26"
Caliber: 257 Wby M.
Mfr. # UTS257WR60 · 215079
$1,699.95 x [ADD TO CART]

The Ultra Lightweight would warm the barrel up faster as it is very thin. Theoretically the Accumark should be more accurate, but both have good bedding and are guaranteed to shoot 1 1/2" or less at 100 yards. What that means is that both will shoot 1" or less at 100 yards with tuned handloads and a good operator.

For a range gun get the Accumark. For high country or hiking style hunt get the Ultra Light.

Neither of my Mark Vs would consistently shoot 1" or less despite extensive load development, yet almost all of my 700s costing half as much would do better than 1".

I had no trouble getting all my Weatherby Vanguards to shoot 1" and under and they are priced at 500 bucks, so I would have a hard time paying 1700...

I would love an accumark also, but I wouldn't hold my breath that its going to shoot that much better than any of my Vanguards.

If I was going to spend 1700 bucks, a Cooper rifle would be the first on the list.... now those are sweet rifles.

For a 257Wby get the vangaurd, get the floorplate done & throw in a Timney trigger, the Vangaurd triggers suck out of the box. You dont need the markV for a 257, it's too much bolt so to speak & too much money, if you were getting a 300, 30-378, 338-378,or a 340Wby & up then the MarkV is a great choice. For a 257Wby it's just status, as far as I'm concerned!!! yah the tube is supposed to be better but save your money, I'm getting .90 to 1.25 groups with factory loads, Via dial caliper!!!! and I'm a shaky bad shot!!! handloads will be tighter obviously.

I shot one in .25/06, and it was minute of pop can at 500 yards. To my way of thinking the .257 is one of the Weatherby cartridges that makes sense and if I'm ever bitten by the Weatherby bug that one will be in the line up.

Remington is now chambering the 257 WBY in it 700 CDL SF ! 26" barrel. Look on their website if you like Reminton :)
I have a Vanguard in 257 WBY and it shoots .345" three shots @ 100 yds, .656" @ 200 yds with handloaded 120 gr Speers @ 3250fps.
It likes a FULL dose of IMR 7828.

My old vanguard in a 270 wsm shot a consistant 1" group, took my biggest Muledeer buck with that rifle. I found handloads really helped in tightening the groups on the bench. Only thing I hate with Weatherbys is their poor trigger which can be fixed with a Timney.

I recently acquired a 7mm wby mag accumark and just love the feel of it. I was popping bigger cans at 250. I wanted an elite gun to use the zeiss rapid z 600 scope on it and it still be a hunting rifle. If it works out I would pass the vanguard down to my nephew. Should I get timney triggers in my weatherbys, tikkas and rem sonero? Shoddy logic I know.

Weatherby® Vanguard® Rifles Feature New Trigger

Not resting on their reputation for guaranteed accuracy, Weatherby® Vanguard® rifles now feature factory, "hand-tuned" triggers calibrated to break crisply at an average of 3.15 pounds - as low as 2.5 and not any higher than 3.8 pounds. Additionally, the rifles' sear engagements are set to .008 inch to .014 inch--for perspective, the average piece of paper is .003 inch.

"Serious hunters and shooters know the impact a crisp trigger has on accuracy," said Brad Ruddell, Weatherby's vice president of sales and marketing. "The new triggers contribute to tight groups with each Vanguard."

Vanguards remain the only production rifles to come with a factory-shot target and accuracy guarantee of a 1 ½-inch or better 3-shot group from a cold barrel at 100 yards with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition.

"Weatherby is the only firearm manufacturer to guarantee its rifles' accuracy with a factory-shot target," said Ruddell. "The target is tangible evidence of each Vanguard's accuracy. We take the necessary time to guarantee each rifle's accuracy before the rifles ever leave our doors."

Vanguard's action features a one-piece forged and machined receiver for exceptional strength and structural integrity. The rifles' accuracy-enhancing features also include actions bed to Weatherby's famous Monte Carlo design stocks.

Vanguards are available in sixteen different calibers and 120 caliber/model combinations, including Weatherby's proprietary .257 and .300 magnums. The rifles range in weight from 6 ¾ pounds to 8 ¼ pounds. Available models include Synthetic, Stainless, Youth/Compact, Sporter, Sporter SS, Varmint Special, SUB-MOA Matte and Stainless, SUB-MOA Varmint, Deluxe and custom models.

Sako guarantees five shot MOA groups with their rifles.

You dont need a Timney in any rifle, I just needed one in my Vangaurd, it was a really bad trigger, possibly a monday or friday made firearm. As far as Tikkas, I'm not sure, Rem should be fine without one, I have a couple & they are good factory triggers, as fas as triggers go Mackillan!!!!!

Not with a factory shot target, however.

True, but I never judge the accuracy of any rifle based on one three shot group anyways. My Remington 40-xbks came with two sub 1/2moa five shot groups,so weatherby is not alone in providing test targets.

My Mark V is more accurate than my Remingtons. About an inch at 100 with me shooting and I am by no means the worlds best bench rest shooter.

I love the look and feel of my mark V soooooooo much. Just holding her brings me pleasure.......shooting her brings me pleasure and a sore shoulder.
