I am in market for an all around shotgun for turkey, upland, and other small game hunting. Looking for semi automatic with low maintenance. Budget is $1000 out of pocket. I narrowed search to Weatherby Element Waterfowler MAX-5. Wondering if good folks here have any experience with. Any good, bad, ugly like to share.

If not this, any other recomendation within $1000 out of pocket, low maintenance and semi automatic.

Thanks for helping a newbie here.

I have saw a number of these listed somewhat recently on internet shopping. They look good and have had really good online reviews. I would also like to hear some real world reviews.

I bought a synthetic Element from Dante's for 700 bucks a few months ago. I like it a lot. You certainly get a lot for your money. Maybe not what you'd get if you dropped 3 grand on a SBE3, but I'm in no immediate danger of doing that. Certainly not much separating the Element, in terms of fit and finish, from guns I've spent twice as much on.

I bought it because I got an itch to try an inertia gun during the pandemic but didn't feel right about dropping $1300 on a Franchi or twice that on a Benelli at a time when I can't even get to a store to see how it shoulders. I've run a couple hundred shells through it without any issues - mostly just patterning steel shot, but also some buckshot and slugs for ####s and giggles. Haven't taken it to the range so I can't comment on how it handles target loads, but based on performance to date I'd be shocked if there are any issues. It's nice and light and fits me well. Trigger is light. No FTFs or FTEs yet. I've let a couple of friends shoot it too, and they liked it too. Recoil is a bit more than what you'd get from say an A400 or a V3, but lighter than most pump actions.

I don't know how much of a newbie you are - if this is your first shotgun, you might want to wait until you can go to a store and take a look at a few before buying something online. There are a lot of guns that I thought I'd like until I bought them. But given the price and what you get for it, probably not the worst place to start. I can't imagine you'd be all that disappointed. I assume if you're looking to spend an extra 200 dollars on camo that you're planning on using it for hunting. It'll certainly do the job there. Comes with 4 chokes and some shims.

Thanks a bunch for your response and feedback. Yes this is my first semi automatic. And it does make sense to wait till I can go to store and feel the fit. Hopefully, soon.
Thanks again.

I've got Weatherby Element Canadian Upland models in 12g and 20g. I bought them because they were Weatherby and I wanted inertia upland guns. I am really enjoying using them. I also have an SBE2 as a waterfowl gun. The inertia guns may be better if you don't clean as often as you should with gas guns. May be important as well when hunting in messy waterfowl conditions.

Yes, low maintenance is major factor I am tilting towards Element. Thanks for your input.
