Weatherby Fan's

Feel free to start one.:p

I can't wait until Weatherby builds a MK V Lasermark in .375 Ruger...

I've been watching this for a bit. Funny stuff. I've allways liked the rounds and have used most of them. Some quite a bit. Never liked the guns that much though. In the last 10 or so years I've owned about a dozen. All have been accurate depite what some say. All have been well made and nicely finished. Are they my first line serious guns, well no. I use Mod. 70s. The guns are too big for the H&H size rounds but once you get to the 378 based ones they're perfect. While I'm at it the stocks handle recoil like no others, at least for me. I've had them in 338-378, 378 and 460. I'm a straight stock, stainless synthetic guy for the most part but I can appreciate WBYs too. 375 Ruger...not so much Hahahaha

I know you work as a banker, but to twist things around like a lawyer from one personal quotes to another. BTW, I think that the names Roy and Ed Weatherby are more world known than USA Presidents let alone other gun makers. Be "honest" with yourself, and STOP twisting the story.

You sure like to step over lines don't you. But insulting your own intelligence is always fun to watch regardless.

I like my Weatherbys. I feel they offer good value for the money. I do agree that the action is better suited to the larger calibers and longer rounds.

I always marvel how someone buys a new Remchseter and then throws away everything but the receiver - spends another $2000 _ to end up with a Remchester that is "a great manufacturer of rifles...." Sure - it will be a nice rifle - but it is now a semi-custom or full custom rifle.

Buy an Accumark for $1700 odd and be done with it, (even a Vanguard...)

I grew up loving the "classic" stock style...I think now that I was merely victimized by the reverse-elitism (or was it just jealousy?) displayed by the gunwriters whose words I devoured like candy. I fell for the straight-comb, slim forearm, understated-elegance crap like a ton of bricks. I had no interest in Monte Carlo combs or squared-off forearms...they were for tasteless heathens!

Then I fired a buddy's MarkV, I think in .300Roy chambering. A revelation! Those high comb stocks are, for me, absolutely the most comfortable things going. My .340 was a pussycat, until I tried plopping it into a classic-style replacement stock. At that point the fun went out of shooting that caliber. I quickly went back to the original stock, and then foolishly sold that Euromark in a moment of weakness. It was one of the best hunting guns I have ever owned.

Scoff at the styling if you want...I admit I don't care for the high gloss stock finishes myself. But, when it comes to designing a comfortable, recoil-mitigating, easy to shoot handle for a rifle with any significant recoil, Roy W knew what he was doing.

I read an article by John Barsness (I think) a while back about how the Monte Carlo mitigates recoil best for some body types and the classic style works well for others

I think that is absolutely true for many types of stocks and recoil pads etc.

Very true, and really it's old news too. The same old stuff about using the rifle that fits you. It was just an intersting example of two extremes of stock design being tried on the same rifle and what a difference it made for the shooter. It also makes it kind of funny when guys talk about how they "hate the Monte Carlos and what use are they anyway" and that kind of stuff. For some guys a Monte Carlo will be just the ticket.
Having read through the whole thread I'll just add that I think Weatherby made some neat cartridges alright.

I remember that article. It had to do with where you chin and cheek line are in reference to your collar bone IIRC. Taller individuals with normal necks and high cheek bones would prefer the fit of the Monte Carlo and Weatherby style stock (I fall in this category), and the rest of stumpy humanity would prefer classic style stocks :)

Which doesn't make sense, because both WJ and Track have no neck.....

Credit is due chuck....That middle target is more than exceptional. That 280 rem is chambered in what kind of rifle?

They are all good Targets.A spades a spade!

After owning two Weatherby Mark V rifles, two Sakos, and six Coopers, I found the Weatherbys the least accurate, and the fit and finish didn't match the Sakos or the Coopers. All of the rifles were in the same price range.

That may be True...but unlike you we dont shoot Dink Bucks every Fall :stirthepot2:

People with no neck shoot bigger bucks? Weird. I need someone to :HR: in that case.

When have I posted dink bucks? You have to shoot bucks to post them.

In fact I am sick of having taste and common sense, it seems like work having standards. Pass me some of that Kool-aid WJ and I'll hop on that Weatherby train!
Bring on the Mark V's, A-Bolts, and Savages! Hunting with ugly guns is the new cool!

I have to admit, I did own a Weatherby once......but I got better.
