Having owned two Weatherby Mark V rifles, as well as five Coopers, all of which cost less than $2000, I for one, am much more impressed with the Coopers.
Choo! Choo! Get on the brain train Chuck. You find more beauty in a green, brown or grey plastic stock? The 240 and 270 Weatherby cartridges are the fastest in their class. Graig Boddington quoted that the best all around cartridge is the 300 Weatherby. You love elk hunting, don't you? Well that 300 Weatherby Mark V in the photo has killed over 40 elk. I see lots of attraction. Alot of people would love to own a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe but can't afford it. We are fortunate and grateful that we can own a classic firearm such as the weatherby. Would you be more impressed if we pulled out the $4,000 and $5,000 Cooper Model 52 and 56? Jerk!
Zippedy Doo Dah. And no.
P.S. I'm talking about the but ugly rifle not the cartridge.
Chuck, you have some of the uglyest\most disgusting Plastic rifles I've ever seen.I know that alot of people hate weatherby's,but get real!!!
For someone who sure posts alot of pics of other peoples fancy custom rifles that have beautiful wood stocks, its funny that you just shoot\own plastic Model 70 Utilatarian Firearms.![]()
There is more craftsmanship in my synthetic stocked rifles than all those Weatherby's combined. That is a fact. It is also a fact that my taste in wood stocked rifles starts at around 12k and goes up DRAMATICALLY from there. Out of my price range so end of story.
You will probably be more impressed with the Cooper model 56 chambered with a Weatherby cartridge or that 7mm STW. I know that Whitetail Junkie is going to get that one soon! I can't wait to shoot his STW.

You are entitled to your own opinion about craftsmanship.....You may think that your ugly plastic rifles are better built, but Truth be it....they're not./QUOTE]
What about those Weatherby's emulates craftsmanship? Start with the chain saw cut bolt notch you can throw a cat through and go from there.
Dad and I have owned them all chuck... Remington,Blaser,Sako, kimber, winchester, cooper, corlanes(RMR),Martini and Hagn,etc.......and besides the sako,Martini&Hagn and cooper's,the only thing left in the safe are the weatherby's./QUOTE]
That is HARDLY "them all".
I will say without prejudice that Weatherby and Sako have the best fit/finish among the factory rifles I've owned. That said I cannot comment on Cooper( I'm sure they're exceptional) or some of the other semi-customs.
You will not see tooling marks, galling, pitting etc. on the barreled action of a Weatherby, unlike some of the Remingtons(probably the worst offender as of late) and Winchesters I've owned.
When Remington came out with their LSS chambered in .257Wby I went to pick one out of the batch of 4 that arrived at my retailer. I went home empty handed and disappointed, every one had some kind of issue. Poor crowns, galling in the bolt race-ways,one came shipped without a magazine follower.
People complain that Weatherby's are over-priced, but consider that $1000 is easy to spend on any make of hunting rifle( even some Savages...SHUDDER....)
A Weatherby MK V Matte Synthetic can be had for $1200. A difference hardly worth mentioning for a better quality product. IMO.
