I was at Wholesale Sports in Calgary looking for a new .22 last night and I saw this amazingly beautiful gun with an incredibly polished stock sitting with the other bolt action .22s... So of course I asked what the hell it was. The salesman grabs it (clears the action of course) and hands it to me. It's a Weatherby Mark XXII! Damn! this was the ###iest .22 I have ever held. The finish was flawless, the action was sooooo smooth and the stock was unlike anything I have ever seen on a rimfire before.... Full monte carlo and that beautiful deep satin finish...

The salesguy told me that the actions are made by Anschutz and the guns are assembled onto Weatherby stocks, by Weatherby. The only kicker is the price. But you probably knew that the minute you saw "Weatherby" in the title. $929 in .22LR and $949 in .17HMR.

I almost hate to say it, but I am seriously considering the .22... Does anyone haver any experience with these guns? I'd like to hear a little about the before I commit that kind of cash to a rimfire.

thanks guys!

REALLY nice looking rifle for sure!

Ah, I see. Thanks sillymike. But if I'm seeing things right in your link, the 1416 is more of a sporter/hunter type rifle and the 54 is more of a benchrest gun? So maybe for this type of gun the 1416 is a better choice? Please excuse my ignorance if I am off base, I'm not too familiar with the Anschutz line, other than knowing their reputation for quality and accuracy.

krausb,

If you look at the link, all the 14xx and 64 rifles are built with the 64 action. They are available as either sproter of bench gun.

All the 17xx rifles are built using the 54 action, again, available as a sporter or target gun.

If Anschutz were cars, the 64 action would be a C-class Mercedes, while the 54 action is their S-class... they are both available as 4 doors sedan or coupe... but one is nicer then the other ;)

krausb,

I would be very tempted by this too...I really like nice rimfire rifles. If you think about it, that's not really a ridiculous amount of money for something that pleases you so much, is it? ;)

Jeff.

weatherby 22

there a very nice 22. i have mine set up to shoot 100 yards with it from the bench .

Re: the orig. post...weatherby has been making .22s since the 60's at least, they where called the Mk XX11 or some such, and where a very fancy .22 Autoloader with fancy weatherby stock. They may have made others but that one was prevalent, they stopped making them for awhile and now they have come out with the bolt gun.
