I seen a weatherby stock at the gun show and was dam colse match to Parker Hale. The forend cap and the pistol grip, grip and cap with inlay. Just wondering if you ex-perts know if one copied the other or if one company did the stocks for both.

PH copied the Wby style, which was considered more "modern" at the time. - dan

Most of the Parker Hale Sporter rifle stocks (many / all?) were made by SILE in Italy - you will find that stamp within the Parker Hale barrel channel. At least initially, the Weatherby rifles might have been made in Scandinavia (Denmark?) for Weatherby to sell - I think they were also subsequently made in Europe (Belgium), Japan and USA?

First Mk V rifles were made by Saur, if memory serves. - dan

No doubt - I had read that Roy Weatherby had arranged with Schultz and Larsen to use their early (Model 54?) action for some of his original "boomers" - not likely marketed as "Mark V" though. I believe that German Sauer may have made initial Mark V - I had thought, maybe mistakenly, that FN in Belgium had made something for Weatherby - not likely the Mark V, though.

Originally Weatherby used the FN action made by Brevex and Mathieu but a customer could order any action they wanted for a custom rifle as long as it was suitable. Later Sako was contracted to make the FN actions until Weatherby was able to get the MkV into production. J P Sauer made the MkV's to begin with followed by Howa and then production moved to the US. He also used Schultze and Larson actions to make the 378 Magnum... but who made the stocks for all of these rifle I have no idea.

Thanks guys. I'm refining a parker sock now, sure wouldn't have made the weatherby grade, has a fair amount of pin knots. My car show buddy measures a cars body work by how feet you have to be away from it to look good. This stock is at least a 20 footer.

That there is funny!

On another note, pistol grip caps and white line spacers were all the rage in the 60's and 70's so that might be part of the reason why there are similarities to Weatherby and Parker Hale stocks.
