Looking for a new semi auto shotgun for some duck and goose hunting. I have looked at the usual higher end guns , but they are a lot of loot for the average weekend waterfowler.

I can purchase a Weatherby Waterfowler SA08 with 3inch chamber for 599.99, seems like a bargain if they perform half decent in the field

The biggest knock after reading some reviews is its inability to shoot a variety of loads without changing the friction rings , similar to the Browning A5.

Anyadvice from users of this shotgun would be appreciated:p

take a look at the stoeger m3500 its new and it shoots 2 3/4 - 3.5 inch shells. lebaron has them on for around 680 bux right now, and they seem to be getting great reviews. Thats the way Ill be going.

Mossberg 930 is a cheap but reliable alternative that cycles everything I have put through it.

I looked at the Weatherby and it is a rebranded eastern bloc gun of some kind. While it felt nice and solid the different friction rings, and the unkown support and parts availability as well as the favourable reviews lead me to go with the Mossberg.

I haven't regretted it at all.

If you want to spend more then the Stoeger 3500 is apparently the cats ass for cycling everything you can throw at it. Most 3.5 semi's won't cycle 2 3/4 shells well, but this gun somehow does it in spades.

Of course that's if you feel the need for 3.5 inch shells, which I never have.

Wholesale Sports has the synthetic version (3" mag) on for $479.95. Cabela's has it for $499.

I just picked one up last week from Del Selin for $499 plus GST and shipping (perfectly happy with the purchase and their customer service).

The SA-08 appears to be a handy, uncomplicated and reliable autoloader. (Check the demo on youtube) ASAIC, it should be a fun shotgun. If you do a lot of shooting or have $2K burning a hole in your pocket there are more upscale pieces out there.

For my needs, the "entry level" Weatherby should be just fine.

The SA-08 is made in Turkey. Apparently the ones featuring wood furniture can be "better" (wood-wise) than the price would suggest.
