A fellow dropped off a Weatherby brand 12 gauge shotgun - said he had lent it to a "friend" - it came back to him no longer functioning. He dismantled it to the point where he found a lug is sheared off the main bolt - so I think I would prefer to find a replacement bolt - Numrich lists it, but shows "Out of Stock". I am looking for ideas / suggestions where to find a replacement bolt for a 12 gauge Weatherby SA-08 semi-auto shotgun - if I can not find a replacement part, I will have to find someone who can braze or weld these pieces back together - would be way over my "pay grade" to do so.

I discovered (I think) several things on Internet - Weatherby never made shotguns - they had various makers in the world make stuff, and then sold it with the Weatherby brand on it. So knowing it is branded as "Weatherby" does not help to ID where it was made or by who, or what parts it needs. From the serial number, referring to the Weatherby website FAQ - I believe this is a Model SA-08, made in Turkey.

It appears that the SA-08 was supplied with two pistons for the gas operating system - one for "light" loads, and one for "heavy" loads - the owner thinks it is the "light" load piston that is in there - I have not figured out how to tell the difference yet. As received, it was partially dismantled, with a plastic bag of parts that the owner had removed - apparently until he found the broken part. So, I agreed to try to figure out a solution for him. The chamber is marked for 2 3/4" or 3" shells - but the on-line Owners Manual seems to suggest that the user has to ALSO swap pistons, depending on the "power" of the round that is used. I suspect that is about getting reliable semi-auto gas functioning - or getting "sheared off" parts, if you get that wrong.

Any comments about getting this going again - where to find parts - would be appreciated.

They are made by ATA (ATA sells it as the CY). They do come with 2 pistons.

I would try to get the part through Weatherby's warranty reps in Canada (not sure if it's still Elwood Epps).

The ATA CYs were going for 400$ new recently so not sure how much it's actually worth to get it brazed.

Perhaps a month after I made this OP, I was trading emails with someone in Calgary - from Internet, I had gotten the contact information for Weatherby warranty centre (s) in Canada. From them, a replacement bolt would have cost about the same that a used SA-08 shotgun would go for - so it did not happen.
