I am looking for a light weight semi-auto 12 gauge that can be easily carried in the field for grouse or rabbits. My Mossberg 935 is too heavy to carry around but will keep it for the duck and turkey blinds. The
Weatherby SA08 at 6.5 lbs is about 1.5 lbs lighter and should make a big difference when carrying it around all day. Do any of you have any experience or advise to pass on for the Weatherby?

Also interested in any information. I have one on the way. Also heard there might of been a recall on some for the safety not working properly. Anyone have any info on this?
 
Weatherby SA-08's are great guns for the $ they seem to take pretty well everything you can throw at them --- never read a bad review. Only complaint i've heard was on excessive recoil (US site) and later it was said that the guy was using very heavy loads at the range -- Light gun -- heavy load -- heavy recoil -- go figure? I've shot them & liked them.
 
I love mine. totally reliable. Doesn't kick hard at all. That being said i shoot light shot guns all the time. My pump was like 6.5 pounds too, so when i got the semi its was less of a kicker. I run 3 inch 1 1/8 oz at 1550 through mine without it being uncomfterable. You'll probably notice that it feels much nicer than the 930 that you have. I very much like mine,as you can probably tell. It will feel lighter for sure.
 
I have an SA-08 in 20 gauge, but it is still unfired, so I can't tell you much about it, other than it is sure nice and light.:)
 
Well, I finally took mine out and killed a few laundry soap jugs. It is a 20 ga.. The pellets came out the end of the barrel. I was using black box AA. Nice, light little shotgun. Should be good in the gopher patch!
 
I have a the tactical version and was wondering about different choke options, particularly turkey chokes. Im having trouble finding them. Any help would be great.

Five weeks ago I had Wholesale order me one in. It came two weeks ago. I ended up picking up the youth 20 gauge for her. It cycles target loads with ease. So far she put 150 rounds and experienced three or four FTE's. That was with the light piston. Not sure what the heavy piston will do and I expect as it breaks in there will be less FTE's..

As for kick.. she's 5'2 and it does hurt her shoulder if she's not holding it right and she admits it's her fault. Otherwise when properly held she's not complaining. Keep in mind that's with target loads.

The youth model weighs like 5.8 pounds and has a 24 inch barrel.

Thanks for posting the safety notice I am going to have to check my serial number in the morning...

I have had a 12 guage SA08 for about 2 years and have used it for duck geese grouse and a bit of skeet shooting using all types of loads without problem, I did upgrade the sights to an Easy Hit sight because I was having a problem with the sights that came with it, but that's probably more my eyesight than the gun.

Other than that it's a great shotgun for the price and I have had no issues with recoil or shooting any ammo.

I was also considering the weatherby sa08 and almost bought one until I discovered they are cast for right handed shooters and don't fit us lefties. Not sure if this would affect you or not.
 
I just picked one up today, used. Appears to be very lightly used (maybe a box or two through it). My initial impressions are great, nice fit and finish, very light, balances very nicely. I've heard great things so I thought I'd give it a go...

Look forward to taking it out for skeet...now to find a skeet and full choke for it....anyone know where to look? Other than the ee, got an ad there already
